Booma - there is an assumption of risk no matter where you park your car/truck. But this isn't hard, file a claim with your auto carrier and let them subrogate against the lot owner and don't forget to complain about your insurance rates too....

I agree. Parking lot owners do have some responsibility for theft, but you also need to consider the risk involved. I've recently started using YourParkingSpace, and the owners I've dealt with seem to take security seriously. I do hope this app helps reduce the chances of theft. Parking lot owners may not always be liable, but I've had great experiences with verified spots through the app. I should say, it's important to get your insurance involved and keep an eye on those rates.
