Whataburger's new limited time burger

The "Bacon Blaze Jalapeño Double."

The double patty burger is served on a standard Whataburger large bun. It is served with bacon, jalapenos, a new "blaze" sauce, and between the burger patties is a significant amount of jalapeno cream cheese.

When I purchased the burger this afternoon I did not look up the ingredients list ahead of time. I wanted to gauge my natural reaction to all of the flavors. All I could taste was the cream cheese. I occasionally got a bite of a little bit of jalapeno and bacon but it was
overwhelmingly cream cheese forward.

What's interesting is when I was eating it I actually didn't even know it was cream cheese because it tasted more like a queso - like a white sauce you would get at a Tex-Mex restaurant. When I saw it was jalapeno cheese it made sense but the texture was a bit runny for cream cheese. I did not taste any of the blaze sauce at all. Overall the burger was not very spicy because I think the cheese nullified quite a bit of the kick.

Overall it was not bad but not something I would necessarily go out of my way to seek out again. I may travel to a different Whataburger location in the future to see if the cheese ratio is different and perhaps I may have a different reaction.

I give it a 4/10.

I refuse to get the special burgers until they bring back the A1 Thick and Hearty. I don't care who they have to bribe, murder, seduce or payoff, but it needs to come back.

Screw the A1 Thick and Hearty. The Hatch Green Chile Cheeseburger (add bacon) is where it's at.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

The penny-pinching has not gone unnoticed since the the Yankee Overlords took control

  • While the meat wasn't all that great previously, it has declined since the takeover
  • The complimentary ketchup used to be so readily available that you could damn near bathe with it. Now they ask you how many, and they only give you that.
  • Ditto on napkins. There were a couple of instances where they only put one napkin in the bag. Sometimes none.
  • I somewhat expect some stores will stop being open 24 hours

I've become a huge In-and-Out fan. 1) my son works there and you would not believe how well they treat their employees 2) they have a "secret" menu 3) privately owned and pretty conservative (there's a bible verse stamped under the cup) 4) they go great lengths to ensure every part of their menu is as fresh as can be. 5) you can get a burger and fries for around $6.

Their fries suck but if you get them "extra well", the cook them longer so they're tolerable.

Nope. It's in the terms & conditions when you make a Whataburger purchase. Along with granting them access to all of your personal information through the Whataburger app, you also vow to never purchase your own A1 from a third party vendor.

In the attempt to better understand this burger for completion of the review (and also for scientific purposes), another one was consumed a few minutes ago.

Unlike the last time when I was focusing purely on flavor, I took this one apart to better understand its construction. What I discovered is the "blaze sauce" is like a spicy ranch-style sauce but without ranch flavor. This one seems to have more than the one yesterday.

The cream cheese between the patties was there but I did not see jalapenos in the cream cheese itself. There were plenty of jalapenos and bacon mixed in with the blaze sauce.

At this point I do take issue with the sauce being called a "blaze" anything. While it does have a slight spice to it the creaminess takes away any real heat and essentially neuters the jalapeno.

I have no intention of consuming this again and my body thanks me.
