That is because your MIL did a great job of raising her daughter but you failed at your job of raising your daughter.

Free advice: Teach your daughter to achieve great things and get attention. Not by being a sex object to creepy men.
Congrats on posting the most insulting thing one person can say to another on the Internet. Which I'm assuming you did because your parents did a terrible job raising you.

Not to break your brain, but tons of guys do cheerleading as well. And both genders can get full-ride scholarships to four-year colleges if they excel at it.

My son is one of them. He has no desire to do high school / sideline cheer, but is involved in All Star cheer. There are many colleges, including some in the SEC, who will give full rides for competitive cheer.

Good for him, 20 some odd years ago a family friend had a son who got bullied relentlessly for being a male cheerleader. The bullying dried up a bit when he got a four-ride to Alabama and was their elephant mascot for a couple of nattys.

That's awesome! Except for the bullying. Sad.

Times have definitely changed as it seems kids are more accepting these day…at least in person.

No bullying here, but it could also be he is a pretty big boy at 6'2.

Im watching college football. I can see the fun of playing the game of football. I have a hard time seeing what would be fun about being in a dance team or a cheerleader. What do you think motivates girls to do this?
Drill teams and cheerleaders give the audience something to watch when the game is slow or the team sucks.

But girls (and some boys) do it because it's fun.

You build friendships with your teammates, especially during the summer camps. Learning two dances a day then working with your teammates to refine the dances as a group for performance is an awesome challenge.

Your teammates come from different cliques that you normally wouldn't meet, especially in a large high school. The girls next to you in line could be a student struggling in math, or on the debate team, or be a National Merit Semi-Finalist, or an incredible singer in the State Baptist Choir, or a metal chick. They are different from you but they are your teammates who you help, or help you, so the team performs at its best.

Yep, we had to deal with perverts. The high school boy budding perverts who thought that their tired jokes were oh-so-funny. The quiet adults who were much more covert about enjoying the show. The vocal adults who, instead of working on their own mental issues, decided to be the morality police (looking at you, infinity ag) or became stalkers. And finally, the criminals who the police had to give us warnings about.

Overall, it was fun and time well spent.

My best friend has three sons. As children, they were energetic and rambunctious so she put them into tumbling. One of them got into the Naval academy as a result and another got a CHEER scholarship. All three boys are very straight.

Serious question: How are you going to tell your best friend the bad news that she has failed as a parent according to infinity ag?

I do not post often but this requires a response. My daughter has danced since she was 2 years old. She danced in high school, competitively, and in college. She is now an NFL cheerleader. Now let me explain something to you: These girls/young women dance and cheer because they love it. They are not doing their sport for you to "ogle" at them and/or look at them in a demeaning way. If you do, that's on you! She stays in great physical shape, has learned leadership skills, team work, and had made life long friends. You have no idea how dedicated and hard working these young ladies are, and your comment is unbelievably degrading. And, you say that I am a bad parent because I have supported her living out her goals and dreams. She graduated from high school with a 4.0, graduated from college with a 3.8, and is now in medical school. She has NFL teammates that are lawyers, doctors, teachers and other highly regarded careers. Most of them are married. You my friend, are just a mean human being. Next time you are at any event that dance/cheerleaders are present, try to think of them in a different way instead of degrading them. You by chance wouldn't be the guy that sat at Aggie baseball games with a bag over your head when the dance team showed up, would you??
Most respectfully,
A dance/cheer mom!

Hush.

DeeDee has a unique point of view because she is the mom of a professional cheerleader and can tell us about some of the things she sees her daughter gain from the professional level of the sport.

infinity ag was way off base with calling cheerleading/dance team 'hoarish' and 'demeaning' and inferring that parents of cheerleaders and dance team members failed at their job of raising daughters. He is getting the push back that he asked for.

Meh, I think both takes can be true at the same time.

Everything that Dee Dee NFL Cheerleader Mom said can be true - learning leadership skills, teamwork, business contacts for life, etc etc.

At the same time, you're not going to change Mother Nature - buxom women on the sidelines wearing skimpy outfits, with the hair and the make-up and the glitter and all the jiggling…. Any straight male is thinking one thing and one thing over. It's not "despicable" or "sexist". It's biology being biology.

If I may add. I was the principal of two girls on the Aggie Dance Team. They are passionate about dance and have been since an early age. In addition to games, they dance competitively. Great kids from great families.

Dude.

Straight men don't need a woman in a short skirt, with full make-up, "jiggling" on the sideline to think about one thing.

They'll think about that one thing while locked in a silent, dark room.

But why is straight men being entertained by pretty women performing such a bad thing?

Contrary to some crazy leftists, the vast majority of straight men can find a group of women dancing entertaining and sexy all while keeping their hands to themselves and rude comments out of their mouths.

I've talked plenty to college cheerleaders, and those kids put in so much practice time in the months leading up to their competitions. NCAA "restricts" in-season athletes to 20 hours or so per week, and sure, it may go beyond that, but those competition dance and cheer team members are going into the 40-60 hours per week leading up to contests as there are no restrictions as most schools.

I respect the athleticism of cheerleaders more than gymnasts in general. One does it on springy padded flooring, the other on good old sod like God ordained.

For all the cheer moms on this thread you've got to acknowledge that the little girl cheer/dance competitions are a little disturbing. Dance moms plastering their 8 year olds with makeup is kinda creepy.

I'm just basing it on what I've seen in person. 100s of dance kids taking over a big hotel in Dallas.

There are some dance companies that do require heavy makeup and very skimpy costumes for very young girls. However, there are many that are run by very conservative teachers/owners. We always chose the conservative route. . I have attended manyyy dance competitions and I too have been appalled at some of the costumes and "moves" that young girls do. So… don't base your knowledge of competitive dance on the tv show. Not all competitive dance companies are the same. Oh.. and by the way, we went to many competitions and bombarded hotels. So much fun!!

My son did team cheer from 13-17 years old.

On the plus side, it is incredible seeing the performance. The larger teams having 30+ members flying around, flipping, throwing the fliers, etc. The preparation and hard work they put in, wow...yes, they are athletes. They learn team work, physical fitness, leadership all while having fun in a positive energetic environment. And yes, a few schools back then offered scholarships, my son wasn't quite that level. Maybe more offer now?

However, there is a dark side. (I am NOT saying this is true for every team, just what my wife and I witnessed.) My son was on three different teams through the years, his last year ended with his team from Dallas winning the nat'l championship. So he had a wide variety of experiences, teams, and team mates.

Most teams usually have far more girls than guys. Many of the guys are gay, my son included. His team had an age range from 12-17 years old. You can imagine some of the angst, drama, and issues that can result from having that age range at that young of ages. Young girls infatuated with the guys, girls trying to 'flip' some of the gay guys, relationships that develop and then go bad, bullying, etc. One cheer guy my son knew got into a relationship with a younger male and went to jail, possibly forever listed a pedo?

Early on, there was a sleepover one saturday night at one of the parents' house. My wife asked about chaperones and sleeping arrangements as there were going to be about 10 girls and 2 or 3 boys. The mom replied, 'Oh, bless your heart. We don't worry about that. Mother Nature will take over and you better now just accept that this is the way cheer is." The kids were 11-14 years old at the time.

Yes, there were always a few parents on every team who were over-the-top. Some got pretty...excited...screaming and jumping around while watching their kid perform. And yes, the girls outfits, hair, makeup is a bit, well....you know. The emotion before and after a performance is pretty high.

The positive outweigh the negative. It's like anything, you take the bad with the good. (I don't miss it, and my son came out unscathed.)

Admittedly, if you're straight but have no issues with "appearances", it seems like a great way to talk with girls.

I wouldn't have been brave enough for that in high school though. (The being a cheerleader part.)
