Yes, that's right. As an employee you will be able to elect to get paid each day as opposed to once a week or once every two weeks.

That sounds absurd to me and a lot of work for payroll. Why would this be good to have? Are other companies offering this?

ALOT of people living paycheck to paycheck.

ALOT of people don't know how to budget

It's becoming a trend. A lot of payroll is automated now anyway. It's not the headache that it used to be. Getting paid the same day may help encourage people to pick up extra shifts.

Hospitals are competing for maintenance, housekeeping, patient care technicians, etc. with a lot of other industries that are desperate for workers in the same pay range. They're just trying to keep up with what workers are wanting.

There's always a catch though and likely a small fee for each paycheck.

I know a handful small business owners who have started paying their employees daily, mostly in the esthetics or food service industries. Kind of surprised to hear of a larger employer doing it.

As someone mentioned above, payroll is almost entirely automated now. The only time I ever touch it for my people is if I give a raise or hire someone new. I have everyone on a bi-weekly schedule, but it wouldn't take long to change the frequency.

UKG makes this easy for us to offer to our employees so why not? It also helps keep them out of the walls of payday loan places which I can also do so much about.

I had a job with an HVAC company over a summer in college that paid weekly. There's certain positions and industries where it can make sense.

Hard for me to imagine owning a business in which I had employees who couldn't make it at least a week without a paycheck.

Perhaps but how they handle their finances is none of your business as long as they are good employees.

Agreed. My financial advisor is living paycheck to paycheck and his investments have encouraged me to live similarly.

Speaking as someone who never experiences (thankfully) a daily deficit of funds, I'd hate to be robbed of that feeling when you get that big bi-weekly check that had all the overtime on it.

Would it be a way to cut down on overtime. Seems like the work time clock would restart with each paycheck.

The hospital is not doing this to help the employee. There has to a benefit to the hospital somehow.

I think it's more of a retention and recruitment thing.

I'm sure a lot of the housekeeping and food service stuff in most hospitals is now actually outsourced to companies like Sodexo so it's probably not fir those positions.

Keeping good patient care Tech/ CNAs around and some of the high-value ultrasound technicians and other people is difficult. People can make BANK learning how to do ultrasounds.

I am responsible for 4 hospitals. It doesn't benefit us at all except as something to offer our employees to encourage them to stay. I pay the same either way.

Every time I am in the hospital, they bring in an ultrasound tech because my veins are super tiny and hard to find.

The fact they can scan my arm, put in the IV needle (with little pain) , and draw 4 tube's of blood in under 8 minutes makes them worth every penny they get.

Even though I call them vampires.

We are going from monthly to biweekly allegedly for retention and attractiveness purposes. I have been paid monthly by the state for 24 years. How we ever survived I don't know.

I don't know why we are rewarding people for being irresponsible so now I have to move my billing and funds transfer dates around and pay more attention. So stupid.

If they have handled their own affairs to the point of not being able to go a week without pay, they probably are the type that would negatively impact mine. That would be my business and they very likely would not be worth the risk.

But if they are getting 10 dollars an hour, they may not always have the ability to be economically responsible. They can be good workers but live in a HCOL city. So this can help, especially if they are taking public transportation

If they really wanted to go the extra mile, payroll professionals could go strip club method and pay their $100k-salary employees by tucking a dollar bill into their waistbands every 75 seconds!

Or panhandler-style, where they chuck a nickel at them every 3.75 seconds.

I get paid monthly.

Last job was bi-weekly. It was an adjustment for me but not a big deal.

When we would hire entry-level employees, they would always freak out over the idea of getting paid every two weeks. Some of them were really stressed out about it.

Maybe they don't trust the employer will pay them.

I am a general contractor, and we've had subs go under, and their guys didn't get paid that week.

I'm paid weekly, and honestly don't like it, because every bill I have is a monthly cycle. I do treat my budget as if I'm just paid 4 times a month, but I'd rather be paid twice a month, or monthly like my wife, and not deal with the inconsistencies that result in being paid weekly.
