I'm cross posting this from the San Antonio forum. There is a Texmex restaurant in New Braunfels called Herbert's, they also have an original location in San Marcos. For my point of view, they are about as good as cheesy greasy Texmex gets. Locally owned and operated, great chips and salsa, outstanding enchiladas and fajitas, great atmosphere and it's not overpriced. If your entertaining someone from some other part of the country and want to show them a classic Texmex place, take them to Herbert's.

They had some lady leave them a bad comment in a large New Braunfels Facebook group. Well they responded and brought receipts. This is some of the best clapping back by a business that I have seen and it's funny too.

The most surprising and unstated note about this story is that Herbert's has been able to survive at that location. Countless others have tried there but all who have come before closed.

And they are killing it at that location. There's usually a wait on most nights if you want to sit on the deck outside. It also doesn't hurt that NB has doubled in size and some big development have popped up on that side of town.

Anyone complaining about the price at Herbert's needs a kick in the c you n t.

Food is decent, nowhere close to outstanding, but when the kids were small or taking a large group there's plenty of value and always great service

We have a 4 year old and it's hard to find a place where he can play and we can sit and keep an eye on him while actually enjoying a few moments of adult conversation and a margarita.

Schwampkrugs had a good run there, but it lost count of how many different things it was between that and Herberts.

Karen writes a multi-paragraph rant about a restaurant experience and tells multiple lies

Herbert's takes time stamped videos and responds to each paragraph showing a video that disproves every part of her story

Fans of the restaurant pile on the Karen who is forced to delete her post, but thanks to community notes and screenshots can't get out of her web of lies

Karen's husband is likely beat down from a life being married to a miserable itchbay

Doubt they ever return. And from the looks of the video, both should probably avoid Mexican food for a while anyway.

Lived in New Braunfels 10 years, have never even heard of Herbert's!!

Of course, those ten years were 1980-1990.

Went to Schwamkrug's back in the 80's, would get a Hamburger "Steak" and thought I was really living. My parents had enough money to eat out but we almost NEVER ate out as a family growing up, I just don't think people in general ate out in the 80's. Not nearly as often as they do now anyway. Once I got a job and then later turned 16 and could drive, I'd take my girlfriend out to a restaurant almost every weekend - felt like a baller.

If you left in 1990 you wouldn't have heard about it since Herberts opened about 20 years after you left.

The bigger loss was a little bit further down Walnut, Hanna's Kitchen. They had to close down a couple years ago due to Covid/road construction/kitchen equipment breaking down.

I'm not clear on what New Braunfels Karen was complaining about. She references a PRIOR visit in which she alleges they (her, the husband, and a nephew) were charged $54 for "three lunch specials" and "received no explanation". Explanation about what? I guess she thought that price was too high? But she provides zero context about whatever her beef was on the first visit.

Then on Visit #2, I guess she's griping that the price was $28, even though they were given the 'lunch special price'? So she's complaining that the special price isn't low enough? Did she not have a menu with prices on it?

Also, random sidenote - these people remind me of my parents when they go out to eat. In and outta there in under 25 minutes is always the goal. It's like a race. They brag when they see a new record. Never understood that.

this is the best timeline.

Herbert's is showing what businesses should do when a Karen goes on an unhinged online rant and posts some BS negative review. I've seen so many others profusely apologize and offer a gift card, or in worse cases, discipline the employee.

Absolutely love seeing them stand up for their employee who they clearly value, and telling the customer to GFH.

I've never been to this place but I'll make a note to stop there next time I'm in NB.

The restaurant from the still shots. Is that not in San Marcos? Near Texas St?

I've been to it twice. It's average for Mexican food in Texas

I was wondering what her endgame was. Did she want her meal comped? It was probably a little late for that. Did she want to run Herbert's out of business?

I don't leave a lot of reviews online, but I usually read previous reviews before I do. I left one for a local auto parts store where I got bad (actually non) service from a parts guy who told me he wasn't going to look for a generic part (wheel studs) unless I had a model number for the vehicle. He flat out refused to help. Before I posted I read previous reviews that specifically mentioned this employee and being unhelpful. Maybe I dogpiled, but I gave specific examples of what happened.

Cannot say that I am a fan of how this woman has been ran through on this. It is one thing to have a public response to a public complaint, but the new specials and drink items seem to villify her a lot more than necessary.

In my 20 years that I was in the restaurant business, if I had responded publicly to a complaint in such a way, or had cameras on people as they ate, then I would have no longer been employed there. I have been out of it long enough and not really paid much attention to cameras focused on dining room tables, but I will. Seems fishy that this entire experience was on camera.

Yes. Very odd for a business to have security cameras in this day and age

Those cameras are probably there to keep an eye on employees more than customers.

I know it feels good, but its usually best to just let miserable people be miserable. Their lives are miserable, what you do to respond might make you feel righteous, but they're getting theirs. I can guarantee that woman hates her life.
