Some dudes on a group chat I'm in were debating "cocktail attire" not long ago. I was in the camp saying no necktie, but wee were in the minority - especially after one of the wives said "definitely wear a tie".

Dude goes to the party, 90% are wearing ties. So I was wrong.

We're all 53 years old if that matters.

Men: non black suit, no tux. I'd say tie is debatable with "cocktail attire" but since it says "elevated" (which is very annoying) is wear a tie.

Women: no gowns and no ****ty cocktail dresses (again, lame). Midi length is probably the sweet spot, or mini just above the knee. Can be a bit sexy or more traditional/formal.

Time of year/weather would also play a role for me.

I've told my wife, if anything ever happens to her or to us as a couple, I'm just gonna use my spare time to play guitar. I've seen what some of my single friends go through and it's a nightmare.

Elevated cocktail attire seems like it means what pre-Covid cocktail attire meant: neatly fit dress that hits somewhere above the knee (based on quality of her stems) and pumps for ladies and slacks + tailored shirt + jacket (casual tie if you can pull it off) for guys.

Covid era cocktail attire seems to have devolved into dumpy work trousers and flats for ladies and pleated khakis and a sloppy polo for men.

Truth. MUCH better to overdress than the alternative. Being the best-dressed guy in the room is never a bad thing.
