I worked at Bennigan's in CS for 3 years. Really good food.

I have never found another good Monte Cristo.

We lived at the one in San Antonio by UTSA. The bar is also where all of the waiters and bartenders from the area would go after work and hang out since they were open late. Legendary spot.

I remember, when I was a student, talking to a guy who used to cook at Bennigan's in CS. He said they would toss ziplock bagged measured portions of pre-breaded mushrooms directly into the fryer and watch the baggies melt off and sink to the bottom. I stopped eating there after I heard that.

I did love that Monte Cristo sandwich though

My favorite was at Chandler's Landing Yacht club growing up after a day of skiing. Looks like the menu has been updated and they have a brunch version, but the OG is gone.

I make a one-off version with Thanksgiving leftovers. Wheat bread, Dijonaise, dressing, turkey, and havarti. Dunk in French toast batter, grill in butter and serve with jelly cranberry sauce

I actually learned this recently. My wife and I were discussing whatever happened to Bennigans. So, I was surprised to learn that it still exists in a handful of locations. Surprisingly, there are more international locations (15 with 5 more coming) than domestic ones (9)

See the pro tip down below the reviews where a former Benny's employee says to wrap the sandwich in saran wrap and refrigerate ahead of time so the sandwich keeps it shape and absorbs less oil.
