I prefer medium hot now because my stomach can't handle extra hot any longer.
Pace is my go to but I've enjoyed Texas based companies. I wonder how HEB brand is?

For jarred Mateo's is good. But the best are the fresh salsas in the square plastic containers in the refrigerated section.

i like HEB's you can get in the produce section in the plastic flex container. hot is better than medium though.

Salsa Deleon if your HEB carries it. Maybe don't get the Hot if your go to is made in New York City!!
No, I don't give a damn how much money you make. If your last shirt has pockets, take all you can take. I'm goin' out with nothin' like I came in

I find store salsa too spicy, i usually just blend some tomatoes, onion and garlic and eat it with tostitos chips.

That ain't salsa. That's a weak-ass Kmart version of gazpacho.

That's spaghetti sauce bro. At least add a seeded and diced jalapeno in there.

Not to pile on or anything, but Julio's mild truly is the best

Easy salsa:

Approx 1lb ripe tomatoes (usually the ones on the vine)
Quarter small white onion
Small garlic glove in husk (less is more so only use half if big)
1-4 Serranos

Put all that on the top rack of your oven and broil on high until charred on both sides. Peppers take shortest, tomatoes the longest.

Put in blender and blend until incorporated and still has some texture. Add teaspoon of salt.

Eat. I promise you'll like this more than jarred picante style sauce.

OMG, I can't stand Pace salsa. It's so plain/bland. HEB Salsa is way better than Pace.

I love salsa and always have 2-3 jars around. Some favorites include:

Jack's Fresh Salsa (in refrigerated section)
Mateo's
Mrs Renfro's
Pace Restaurant Style (gotta have it for scrambled eggs)

Jack's and Mateo's are great for cooking. I add a fair amount in with a pound of hamburger for some awesome taco meat.

I think the point being made is that the effort to make it is bare minimum and the payoff significantly better than buying jars. It freezes perfectly as well so make 2 quarts and freeze in 16oz containers. 3 of the times you enjoy it won't require any more work than opening a jar.

Frontera used to be good until it was sold to Sysco or whatever national brand it was sold to. Now, it's watered down crap. Siete is solid for jarred salsa.

Salsa El Gallo. Made in Weslaco. Available at HEB. I know the owner, and he's a great little success story.

And my point is it's obvious fresh made is better. This thread is about best store-bought salsas, not salsa recipes.

No surprise you're chiming in. I expected that exact post from you, but you were beaten to it.
