I don't mean when you buy windshield wipers.

I had to get a car battery replaced and they do it there, but batteries are so complicated now that it took about 20 minutes. I wasn't sure if I should have given him some money or if that would come off wrong.

The guy offered to change my battery for me the other day so I let him. It was raining. Gave him $10.

Why not for wipers? I'll usually give them $5-10 depending on what's in my wallet for saving me the trouble.

Same here, actually. Bought all sorts of parts from there over the years, but that was the only time I ever tipped them.

I do it myself, but yes if you have them install you're a chode if u don't tip.

They've made it stupid difficult to change batteries so give the poor saps some cash.

I don't trust most the people at autozone to replace anything, hell some of them probably could not even open the hood.

At the crappy AutoZone by me, the guy acted like he was doing me a favor to let me borrow some tools and change it out myself. No one even hinted at offering to do it for me. I mean, I'm a man and over 40, so it was no big deal, but no tip was going to be offered when they didn't offer to help.

I've never even considered tipping at Autozone and won't start now.

Do you guys tip Amazon? I bought something there and they picked it off a shelf and delivered it straight to my door, which took about 2 days. I wasn't sure if I should have given them some money or if that would come off wrong.

Yeah, me too. If they're doing something for me I could probably do myself, I'm happy to throw them a little something.

Guy installed wipers for me in a driving rain storm, right before closing.. My wipers broke and could barely see while driving prior (road trip).

Basically had to force him to take the 20 bucks. Well worth it.

Yeah…you're an idiot.
These aren't the same thing.

What kind of cars are y'all driving that have difficult to install batteries?

Is he an idiot? It seems exactly the same. AutoZone, as a business, will install batteries and windshield wipers they sell at no extra cost. The company pays the employees to perform this service, just like Amazon pays its employees to deliver the packages they sell.

It would seem if you tip one, tip them all, unless you are some kind of idiot.

And how do they not have a couple of simple tools in their vehicle to handle that chore?

Or windshield wipers? Those don't even require tools.

It's never even occurred to me to have an auto parts store employee do anything to my truck.

I bought a battery for my truck once while recovering from surgery. Doc said to not lift anything over 10lbs.

Asked the employee to carry it out to my truck for me. I was going to have my son change it out when I got home. He said "I'll just install it for you, it will only take a few minutes".

I tipped him $10.

I know there are exceptions to the rule. My dad has a 2006 Chevy SSR and the battery is located off the frame rail underneath the bed. But I would assume most vehicles have batteries in the engine compartment.

My daughter has a Volvo SUV that is a pain to get to the battery or really anything.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado. My truck has a bar (strut?) going across the top of the battery and you have to undo like 8 bolts. If someone who does it multiple times a day and it doesn't cost me anything…why not?

Recent Chevy trucks and tahoes have been PITA to change battery on, relatively speaking. Just takes extra time and tools to even get to them and get them out.

Had a wiper blade break as we were traveling home from vacation. Stopped at an Auto Zone in the area and had the blade replaced. Didn't think twice, gave the lady $20.

I was a manager for an O'Reilly's for 10+ years. Our policy was not to accept tips. However, my parts people work of salary plus commission so when they are in the parking lot doing work they are losing out on sales. So I would tell them to say a tip wasn't necessary but if they offered a second time they could take it. These tips weren't life sustaining but it would but you lunch from time to time

last time I went to Autozone they wouldn't do it and claimed liability against vehicle damage or something.

Oh **** you Grampaw; I live in Houston and my toolbox got stolen out of my truck years ago. Have never carried one since then.

They won't change a battery on some cars. My VW Diesel Jetta is one of those cars. In my case, the electronics would have been messed up if they pulled the old battery.

Socket set
Ratchet
A couple of wrenches of specific sizes
Maybe a screwdriver or two

That's it.

You're so wise; I wish I had posted on the same anonymous message board as you when I was younger.

Oh wait, I did. Didn't help.

Lol no, I'm not tipping.
They helped me with the battery on my f150 as I was on the road and didn't have tools to swap the battery. It was a simple job,

I've had previous experience with them where they had no idea what they were talking about. No, I'm not tipping.

I don't get tipped at my job for going above and beyond, why do we need to be tipping everyone for doing their job? This obsession with tipping is getting out of hand.
