This isn't an unfortunate product name, but people thought the A&W one-third pounder had less meat than McDonald's quarter pounder, so it didn't get a lot of sales because people were bad at fractions.

Not a product, but there was a property manager back in the 80's called Property Management Services with a big PMS on their business cards and called themselves PMS for short. Even more on point, they were all a bunch of screeching biatches too. They were forced to change it to PM Realty Group (PMRG).
