Is Facebook dying?

My kids mid teen and late teen don't have Facebook accounts and some of their friends do but they are not active on them. I just see Facebook used by 45+ people a lot who were in their late 20s when Facebook began. All the kids I know are on Snapchat and the pretty ones among those are on instagram to post pictures of themselves.

Is Facebook dying? What next for the Zuck? No one seems to talk about the Metaverse anymore.

Nobody 30 or younger thinks FB is worthwhile. It's been that way for at least a decade, if not longer.

It's customer base is aging rapidly. The younger generation doesn't have one site like FB that they flock to, so there's no comparable site for them. And I bet they're fine with that.

If you're active on FB, you might as well be wearing a "Help I've fallen and I can't get up" button.

No, it's not dying and is the third most visited website on the planet. I'm not sure why so many people believe this.

Yup, just like the General board. Getting old and empty.

It depends on where you are. In a good portion of the world, Facebook=The Internet for all intents and purposes. It's certainly waning in popularity for the younger demographic in the U.S., but it's still incredibly popular worldwide

Facebook has a lot of affinity groups now that seem active.

So it's shifted somewhat from personal posts to posts centered around specific interests.

Facebook is actually making a comeback with the younger crowd.

Very true. It's still useful for groups and specific interests.

But that's pretty much all I ever used it for; no interest in blogging my boring life.

Yeah, that is something new. Lots of sloots on reels. I thought only I was getting them.

Bro, I just sold my old iPad on FB Marketplace. $170. Not bad for something I don't use.

It's taken the place of craigslist. Craigslist was big about 15 years ago. Sucks now. No one uses it, everyone is on FB MKT.

Yeah you are right. I am on various sports groups, some music, some history groups. That is about it. FB is still good for that.

Not facebook per se, just the messenger, but they think it's the coolest thing in the world they can talk to their neighbor friends and classmates.

If you live in a small town it serves as the internet directory/yellow pages as there are restaurants and other businesses that aren't on google but they have a FB page.

and it's about 98% scammers. FB sucks a big one these days.

I have no issues with scammers. I don't know what your experience is to say it's 98% scammers. Are you talking as a buyer or seller?

I've easily sold $3k worth of stuff on FB market place in the last year or two (no high ticket items, just $10/$20 items, maybe sometimes $50 or $100.)

Just this weekend, I had 3 extra interior doors I wanted to get rid of in my basement, a queen size trailer mattress, and a shop sink. The doors were at $30 ea, and gone within a day.
The sink and mattress were free and gone within an hour.

4-5 months ago I cleared out a bunch of live music gear. Hit about $1k, and took all of a few weeks.
I've sold tools, all the kids old baby gear, furniture, on and on.

Best thing ever. People already mindlessly scroll FB, so the reach blows anything else away (like CL).

The main thing I have to deal with, especially on the free or really cheap stuff, is someone replying in spanish. I just don't reply. If you can't speak English to me, then you're not getting it.

Wow, 7 and 9 is quite young. My kids are 15 and 19 and I did not give them phones until 9th grade and 10th grade respectively (high school).

How come they don't prefer Snapchat? That is what kids these days use as far as I know.,

Not my experience. I get a lot of "Is this still available" questions and I say yes, and then nothing. OK. But with some patience I still sell my old sheet rather than throw them away.

Earlier I used Amazon Marketplace but nowadays they ask for SSN and I don't want to give that out.

Similar experience. No scammers that I remember. Many people ghost you. One fellow made me come to a location and I waited and he didn't show up. Then he blamed me for not responding to a text on time or something. I was annoyed but let it go.

I sell all my old electronics like phones, iPads, and even TVs. My son broke a perfectly good TV by throwing his Wii game console at it by mistake while swinging it. The LED was destroyed but it would turn on. I did not throw it away or worse, pay someone to get rid of it. I put it on FB, it took some time but I sold it for $35. I am happy someone is using it. He said he wanted to try to fix it. Good, I admire his initiative as I love fixing things too.

they don't have their own phones, they use our old ipads, wifi only models. They can connect with friends on minecraft or roblox or whatever, but they have no control on who they add, it has to be done through my FB account.

I don't think my kids know what snapchat is and that is just fine by me. That app has a very negative connotation in my mind. My kids have no business reading or sending texts that are erased a few seconds later.

So this will probably age me but using it like a newer version of AOL instant messanger (AIM).
