This is very sad. I wish I'd have seen the dogs before all this happened. I could have easily run them over with my truck.

They flip a switch like that because they're bred to do exactly that. That's the big problem with pit bulls that you don't see nearly as often as other breeds.

But, a more precise answer is, Pit bulls are bred with a desire to be "top dog", so being nice to them can make them think it's a good time to attack and become top dog themselves.
