My grandma died when she was 100, and my oldest aunt was 84 at that time. My grandma had 8 kids, first one at 16 and the last, my mom at 43. My mom has 2 siblings in their 90s right now, and she's 66.

But was her dad alive also? That was the question. Both parents. If she had both alive at 84, that is amazing.

My former boss just turned 64. His dad is 88 and mom is 86. He helped his parents move from FL to IL a couple of years ago.

damn - i know several that are 62-65 with both parents...although all are in their 90s.

There is a guy in my hood that walks his 90 year old in laws around all the time. He is easily 75...however the trophy wife is in her 60s!

I am often shocked when i hear people in their 70s talking about taking their parent here or there. To have a mom or dad around in your 70s is rare!

My dad is 68. His dad just turned 90 and his mom just turned 88 (their bdays are a few days apart). His father's mother died at 96 from a car wreck.
So your grandfather's mother is younger than he is?

I hesitate to answer cuz I'm superstitious but we are fortunate to have my parents and my in-laws still with us. All in their early to mid-80s. We have some good genes though as my grandfather lived to 96, my grandmother to 92, my great-gran to 100 and the wife's great gran to 101.

My neighbor''s Filipino dad just died at 107. Her mom is still living. She just texted me this

Yeah was a long life. He was a soldier during WW2 and he had gun salute at the gravesite. We were blessed to have him around that he was able to know his great grandkids.

To have both parents around at 70 is quite rare today. It was more common 100 years ago.
How so? The average lifespans in 1923 were 56 and 59 for male and female, respectively.

I think his idea was that it was more common for people to start having kids as teenagers, so it would be more likely that a 70-year old would have living parents if their parents had them at a young age.
