Saw a sign at a nice golf club in Ireland that said "Please do not put hands in toilets." I was very curious about this. Was this an Irish thing? Was there some nationality that visited often that thought the toilets were hand baths?

Before I could figure it out I realized the sign said "Please do not put hand WIPES in toilet" and that I was an idiot.

• Oh Wednesday. Woke up at 4AM. Did manage to doze for about 30 min then finally got up at 5.
• Prepping for my class today.
• Finished job proposals for new positions
• Work on the Turkey itinerary tonight for a quote. Turkey is not something I've booked before.

- DEI Symposium this morning. Boring as hell. Do events like that actually influence change, or is it just a bunch of people who already believe in the same thing sitting around nodding their heads?
- My boss was the opening speaker this morning and she did great. At least her story was interesting and that was the best speaking spot.
- Board meeting this afternoon/evening - something else that's boring. I think I'm gonna skip it.
- I must be grumpy today

I believe in the importance of DEI - I really do. And I believe that educating others and advocating for DEI is in everyone's best interest as a society.

I also agree with you that DEI efforts can become a checkbox for corporations, and I hate that. Do it right or don't do it at all. And definitely don't waste my time by doing it as a checkbox.

The event this morning was a series of panels and speakers on different DEI topics. Who attends an event like that? People who are already in DEI. So it's a room full of people talking to each other about the importance of the work they already believe in.

That's because if you have to mandate something, it's just not going to work in the long run. And maybe it's not as necessary as you believe.

It's business. People are in the business of making money. Good businesses hire the best people.

Fit is just as important and often plays a significant part of hiring. Since you have to spend more time in pressure situations with coworkers and employees than with your own family. Human tendency is to gravitate to people like you (similar backgrounds, races, and beliefs). There's a lot less opportunity for friction that way.

I've loved my experiences with many bright people from other cultures. It's just not a necessity for a company to be successful and probably shouldn't be forced. And definitely provides more opportunity for conflicts.

Got it.

Tough morning. Many trout found their way to my freezer.

My point was that it was a bunch of people sitting around advocating for things that everyone else in the room already believes in, and not a good use of my time. An echo chamber, if you will. It could've been for anything, this one just happened to be about DEI.
