I know this is a reach, but we are headed to Alaska next week. I'm a pilot and would love to sit right-seat with a bush pilot during our stop in Ketchikan. Has anyone here done anything similar?

I don't have any specific info but I know there's a ton of small companies and pilots who do those flights. May be just a matter of calling around.

Not in Ketchikan, but Talkeetna. Flew with K2. As we boarded, the pilot said "anyone want to ride up front?" so I took it.





So totally doable.

I did that flight with K2 as well. Had the kiddo with me, so I couldn't sit up front. It was an incredible experience! We had a super clear day so we saw Denali, Foraker, and Hunter all at the same time.

There are plenty of pilots that will probably let you ride along with them. Just start asking around at the airport. Most of those guys are close to weight capacity on most flights, so you could get booted.

And 99% of them will insist that you ride up front.

When I was younger, bush pilot was pretty much the only option. Then came along the landing strip, and it was nice. Nowadays, it is all smooth tarmac, and it is great. What a time to be alive.
