I am in a nostalgic mood today, I moved out of College Station on June 4, 1998. Went out of state for my first "real" job. Never been back since as I don't have family in Texas and I never got around to making the trip just to visit the town.

In my initial days I used to get nostalgic about College Station when I would find a video posted somewhere (no YouTube then) and there was a company called Terraform or something that had aerial photos, very grainy though. I was able to see my apartment and Zachary Engg Center. And Evans Library. Then came Google Streetview and now I can "walk" around and see the changes.

That said, my son is in college now, not TAMU of course, so it might be time for me to make that trip and see my old haunts.

RIP Fatburger and Albertsons on University Drive. I miss you both.

I remember when Albertsons first opened. Was just a kid at the time in either 3rd or fourth grade maybe 71 or 72.
Albertsons was very popular because I remember they gave out a free cookie certificate opening week to kids so every time we went in with parents, we headed to the bakery. I had that certificate forever. Don't know how many cookies I got free, but it was a lot! Nice memory.

Was that Fat Burger in the place where the video game bar used to be in the 80s? Name escapes me.

Give your son the Kyle Field experience at a game while you visit your old haunts. It doesn't matter where he goes to school, it will be a memorable trip for you both.

It'll blow your mind how much has changed.

One of my best buddies played baseball for A&M in the mid 80s. He hasn't been back for any reason since he left in Spring of 1985. We've invited him and his wife to join us for a football game but we can't seem to make it work. It's going to shock him.

The changes are mind blowing just going back once a year, can't imagine what it would be like to see it after being gone that long.

Century Square has taken up a lot of the old married student housing space, but there is still a complex behind it that serves the same purpose.

Interesting, I figured the university would've gotten out of that business ages ago.

My parents lived in the part that's probably long gone 50 years ago. They said it was a big upgrade moving to a trailer park on Texas Ave deep in College Station. It might have been known to them as highway 6; not sure if the bypass had been built at that point.

I'm pretty sure I still owe this Albertson's a $20 fee for a bounced check.

The fee was more than the actual check.

Yes I hope to do that soon! The last A&M game I watched at Kyle was against Texas in 1997. I believe it rained that day.

It was behind the McD on University Drive, ad next to A+ Tutoring. In 1996-7 there used to be a life size cut out of Troy Aikman in side.

Yes I agree. I have old videos of him cheering for the Aggies while we watched on TV! Around 2006 or so.

There used to be a place called "The Kettle" on Univ Dr. I believe they demolished the building. Did they move or did they just leave?

That's the Albertsons that was on College Avenue next to where Hurricane Harry's is. It's an empty lot now called "The Stack Field"

This is the Albertsons that is/was on University Drive. It's been empty for almost 12 years.

Well you are right but I am right too.
The one I am talking about closed in Nov 1997. It was along College Ave and Univ Drive. I worked there for a brief and did bagging

Late nights, when there was no shoppers, there would be an old guy (60+) called "Robert" who would be the only checkout-guy. Just him and me in the store. Does anyone remember him? This is around 1995-96. I befriended a Computer Science dude called "Caleb Spring" as well. I believe he's in Dallas now. He also did checkout.

My boss there (Store Manager) was a lady called "Margie".
I still have my Albertson's shirt that they gave me with the logo, and the badge I had to wear with my name on it. Keeps me grounded.

Yeah a pretty big front rolled in right around kickoff and the first half was rainy AF. Second half it cleared out, but then it was windy and cold.

Source: I was there freezing my ass off on the 3rd deck. Hell of a game though!

Long gone, along with the tattoo place next door. There is a fancy mid rise apartment building on top of it now.

Tried to get into those apartments in '79. Long waiting list. They were luxurious compared to the barracks by Southgate.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

It was a gloomy and chilly day and I was planning to walk to Kyle and almost thought naaah but then thought I was a fool to give up on a game with cheap tickets and a nice seating location just for some inconvenience. So I just went.

I have a few pictures that I took of that game. There are some Ags in the frame, I wonder if any on TexAgs was in that picture standing next to me? I will post soon.

Towards the bottom of the third deck, student side, opposite from the horseshoe section and maybe I'm in there.

I forgot that was John Mackovic's last game.

I don't remember much about location but according to the photo I took, I was on opposite side of the press boxes (across the field), near the 37 yard line behind the Texas players. The Aggies were on the opposite side.

There's this dude in glasses and A&M gear who is staring at me when I turned to my left took a picture of the crowd right above me, I will post that soon and see if anyone can identify him or any of the people in the photo. Should be a fun exercise. Maybe they are on Texags!
I went to Bonfire in 1997 also. Got some pictures I took of that.

Was the game where someone got injured and they had an ambulance on the field? The Batt had a picture of that on the front page.
The Fife
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Pretty sure that was a different game, I can't find any references to an injury beyond something minor with Ricky Williams.

I have a few pictures from Bonfire 1997 but beyond me and the couple of friends I went with you can't really see anything other than a crowd and a big ass bonfire burning away. The ones I took before they lit it were from daytime before anybody was really out there.

OK turns out that I did capture a picture of the ambulance on the field. It was from 11 Oct 1997, so not the Texas game. Let me look up who it was against.

Edit:
This game, Iowa State at Texas A&M, October 11, 1997
