A scientist in the French revolution ran an experiment where he would blink his eyes every second after his head was chopped off. IIRC he blinked about 17 times, so there was more than a few seconds of conciousness after getting your head chopped off, not to mention the ability to think, move and probably see. That gives a new perspective to the reports that Marie Antwinette smiled at the crowd as her severed head was held up. Not sure if you would feel pain, but it seems pausible.
