My ring slipped off in a river in 2020. After several attempts to retrieve it, and a few years later I finally decided to order a new one. Then I saw the price had gone up- from about $1100 when I was a student to $1500! And you have to pay all upfront.

Does anyone know of a way to finance an Aggie ring? Quad pay or something like that?

A lot of credit cards will let you split up large purchases into several payments without charging you interest. May want to look into that.

I seem to recall that my ring cost $408.

Ever heard of "saving" money? It is this old ancient concept where you go without things you don't need for a while, like eating out at restaurants, buying expensive alcoholic drinks, cutting back on subscriptions. Maybe you should try that.

Or, post a link to a go fund me. We are nice, generous people. I promise.

Have you thought about a life of crime? Knock off a few liquor stores, grab a few catalytic converters, maybe just rob a bank for the exact money you need. If married, try pimping your wife out. Doesn't really matter what the old girl looks like, it the enthusiasm that counts. Good luck and feel free to ask for advice anytime! Gig'em!

Not of help to the OP, but please go to a good jeweler and get your ring sized properly. Does not cost very much and can save so much heartache.

Probably shouldn't buy another one if you think wearing it in the river is a good idea.

Oh, I thought he was wanting to finance the half the Association didn't pay for.

The tradition during my time in the Corps was that the fish put their money together and bought a diamond for the Company Commander's ring.

That diamond lasted about 2 months before it found its way to the bottom of the Guadalupe River when our CO thought it would be a good idea to wear his ring on the river for our end of year canoe trip.

Entertaining guy, poor decision maker.

$1,100 in 2020 wasn't valuable enough to safeguard.

In 3 years, you haven't been able to Dave Ramsay your way to $1,500.

I really can't help other than to say, stick $1 in a jar every day. Hope the price of gold falls. Worst case, in about 50 months, you'll be able to buy a new ring.

If you need to finance $1500 dont replace it right now. I've been there, no shame in it, its just not a good decision.

Homeowners should cover it. USAA covered mine.

Ramsay is a hack and gives pretty terrible advice.

Really only recommend him if you're an absolute worst case scenario, financially illiterate idiot.

Did you read the OP about financing $1500 for a ring?

Ramsey is good for like 80% of americans, and if you think you have nothing to learn from him youre a fool.

Why would USAA or any carrier cover dropping your ring in the river? No way this is covered under a standard homeowners policy. Maybe if you had a separate "valuable items" policy.

Wouldn't the deductible be more expensive than the ring cost?

No, ours is covered under the umbrella. We have additional valuable coverage above and beyond that, but my ring fell well under that. Mine was lost on the golf course.

I don't understand why anyone would want to put them through what Dave Ramsey thinks is a good idea to save money. You spend decades depriving yourself of everything that makes life fun so you can retire and continue to do the same.

If your finances are so bad that Dave Ramsey makes you deprive yourself of "everything that makes life fun" then you're probably better off ignoring him and dying with huge piles of debt like everyone else at the trailer park

Did you have it covered under a VPP rider? USAA told us they wouldn't cover jewelry or guns unless we specifically had them listed on a VPP rider.

I'll give you that, OP would probably benefit from him.

But his advice is the equivalent of someone trying to sell you an Atkins or fad diet. You can avoid all carbs (halt all spending except rice and beans) for a few weeks or even months, but you will just fall right back into your old habits once you reach your initial goal of paying off whatever you're paying off.

You're better off getting financially educated and making well-rounded long term, lifetime disciple changes. Learn how to save for retirement/hsa/emergencies, budget monthly expenses, and then pay down debt once you have your entire financial life in order. Also learn to use credit cards correctly rather than using them to spend money you don't have. If you budget correctly and treat them like debit cards, they will only ever be a benefit. Free money back every month. Plus permanently destroying your credit rather than maintaining discipline in your spending just points to lack of self-control and you likely have bigger issues.

Most people are idiots with money.

Some of those people are elected to office and continue to be idiots with trillions of dollars of other people's money.

An intervention-style/Keto approach to finances isn't a bad thing for most of them.

I have jewelry insurance on a watch valued at $8000 that I pay $118/year for insurance. This is for lost, damage, theft, etc. Most home owners only covers theft and you still have your normal deductible to pay.
