Do you notice themes in how the now deceased described their experience approaching death?

I've heard from some who've described that it's like a tunnel-traveling sensation. That's about it.

Any consistent themes or glimpses into afterlife they r shared before their eventual death that you don't think were influenced by morphine or hallucinogenic drugs?

Deceased family members in the room seem to be pretty common at the end of life.

I have an aunt that was dead on an operating table and was able to be revived.

She said it was beautiful and the most peaceful feeling and she didn't want to come back. She didn't describe a tunnel but she did cross a bridge.

I imagine mine will be like descending into a deep pit with flames.

There was a blackness. Just… nothingness. No pearly gates, no fiery pit. Just the endless void of darkness. I didn't get ask to be brought back. And now that I'm back, I wish I'd never lived.

You watch too many shows and movies. Most deaths are either sudden or long, slow progressions of multi-organ failure where someone is not conscious for hours to days before they finally pass. The ones that can feel that they are possibly dying in the next few minutes to hours are typically too panicked to wax poetically about "seeing the light".

I saw a wall of smooth carriages or pods that were the most intense colors of tangerine, purple and green - very organized and so bright. And no straight edges. Later with heavy drugs I went down a hallway similar to a blend between Jacob's Ladder and one of the Aliens movies. Nurses later said my arms were reaching up for a long time like I was playing an instrument. Happened last September and I am blessed. Jimbo owes me a decent season.

What even defines reality? We're all energy. When we die, it dissipates.

It's a paraphrased quote from the episode "Mortal Coil" of Star Trek Voyager. In it, one of the characters medically dies but is brought back, and his perspective had changed. When he died he saw nothing. Knew nothing. Saw no one. And when he was brought back, he had to struggle with what that meant for his indigenous religious and cultural beliefs.

Bisbee, go read this book: https://www.amazon.com/Proof-Heaven-Neurosurgeons-Journey-Afterlife/dp/1451695195.

It's about 150 pages. The guy is a heart surgeon and was in a coma for 7 days with a form of meningitis having a 94% lethality rate. He used to teach at Harvard and was basically agnostic.

Interesting book, to say the least.

I died on the operating table and had to be revived. I don't remember anything about it. No lights, no family members, no tunnels. So I decided I'm not gonna go thru with that again.

Back when I worked in hospitals most patients who were DNR status and not expected to make it out of the hospital just gradually became more lethargic as their breathing and heart rate slowed down. Most of those people lose consciousness long before they passed away and would not be able to relate any sort of experience to anyone else.

Research seems to indicate that the hearing is the last to go, so for a lot of those people we would ask the family what their favorite kind of music was or if they were religious and we would play some music as they were going. Had a great playlist of piano hymns for the little old church ladies.

The patients who code and are resuscitated generally don't remember what happened. I did have one guy tell me he had visions of hell and he didn't plan on going back.

When I die I've asked to be buried with my butt sticking out of the ground. My kid will finally have a place to park his bike.

I think the state of passing has something to do with it. Mine was trauma based so real fast. I remember nothing and saw nothing. I do feel like I am cognizant of the time gone though, if that makes any sense. But may just be overthinking it and trying to draw meaning to something where there probably was none.

It is interesting to see though the difference of conversion to religion after such events. It was accepted I think for long periods of time that you "should" convert after NDEs and most did as the "tunnel" was a sure sign of going to God or similar. Not sure if that pace kept true all these years. Personally know someone who did the literal opposite. Was fairly religious to hardcore agnostic after he died and came back.

Search Near Death Experiences on YouTube. There are tons of them describing what happens. Usually the tunnel to light, feeling of peace, meeting with a God figure and reviewing their life, etc.

Go in a big freezer Futurama or Montgomery Burns style and hope for the best. Eventually they'll find a cure for 17 stab wounds in the back or whatever the cause of death was.
