I'm fascinated by the whole production. To get realistic footage of a ship that was supposed to have been underwater for 85 years they actually sank a real ocean liner in 1912 and killed a bunch of people to make it as realistic as possible.

1. Gone with the Wind - 0.15% of the world's population saw it before we had any of the technological advances from WW2. Nothing else has come close unless you count the Chinese movies from the 80s that never made it out of China.
2. Star Wars - Enormous ticket sales, modernized the scifi movie and brought it into the mainstream, and sort of created its own subculture. Responsible for the creation of ILM, and shoehorned its way into Disney parks before Disney even owned it. Single-handedly resurrected the movie industry, so it gets my vote.
