I think they were made by LA Gear and they had a specific name that was not "light up shoes."

I think they were just called "lights" but the branding was (I think) "Light Gear."

Couldn't convince my parents to buy me L.A. Lights, but they were totally down to buy me a pair of Redwing Brogans that were two sizes too big to grow into.

LA Lights: One of LA Gear's most successful lines, which came out in 1992. LA Gear launched its kids line of LA Lights at Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker at $50 retail. LA Gear was selling over 5 million pairs of Kids "LA Lights" per year in the 1990s despite other brands selling lighted technology in the lower distribution channels. Light technology for kids has been one of the most successful launches in the athletic shoe industry with over a 100 million pairs sold in all distribution channels. The shoes were also used as survival gear to locate stranded individuals and children during blizzards, leading to increased demand prior to storms

My cousin had a pair for one day. They burned up on a campout that night.

My aunt was not pleased. He made up a story that he left them outside the tent and a dog wandered up and carried both shoes away.

Were they really just called "lights"? Dang. I could've sworn that there was a catchier name and I just couldn't find it.

They were "L.A. Lights". Nobody wore non-lit L.A. Gear shoes. Maybe like a gym bag or something but the shoes were king.

I remember the Kaepa's with both the double laces AND the little plastic inserts that came in a million different colors.

in 2nd grade I was rockin LA Lights, Girbaud jean shorts, and one of those "basketball is life" tee shirts. In high school, that would have gotten me called something I probably can't post here.

I remember those shoes were popular with the po-lice because it made it easy to follow people who were running away.
