I've only been on Carnival and I liked it, but I might want to go on another cruise line next time to try it out.

It really depends on which of the three categories of cruisers you fit into:

Newlywed
Over fed
Nearly dead

carnival is cheap and attracts such types. I would never cruise with them again

What's so bad about Carnival? It's not as fancy as the other cruise lines, but it's still good.

haven't been on a cruise in 20 years, but the new Virgin cruises look good for adults

Royal Caribbean it is for you.
Norwegian and Celebrity are for the Nearly Dead.
Carnival is the Greyhound Bus or Spirit Airlines of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean picks up a mix of the latter two categories. Celebrity, not Royal Caribbean, was the other option for the Nearly Dead outside of Norwegian.

Royal Caribbean - chartered bus or Toyota Camry
Celebrity - Vonlane or used Lexus SUV with 60k miles
Viking - really nice private casino bus full of 80 year olds

We've been on Carnival (x3), Norwegian (2), Royal Caribbean (x3) and Disney (x1).
We like Royal Caribbean the best...feel that the boats are a littler nicer, the food a little better, the service a little better, and the cost a little higher. Norwegian was our 2nd favorite, but since they started giving free everything to everybody onboard (drink package, specialty restaurants, wifi), its gone downhill in our opinion. Since everybody has the drink package, the lines are much much longer. The wifi, while not great at sea anyway, is much much slower. Its much tougher to get a reservation and the specialty restaurants. Carnival is NOT BAD. It's typically the least expensive option and some of the boats are not in the best shape. But the newer boats are fantastic (and crowded).

All that being said...Disney is by far superior in every category than these other 3 companies. There are a lot of kids, but there are plenty of adults only areas, including bars, restaurants and pools, where they're not a nuisance. Gotta pay up for the increased level of service and product, but in our opinion its well worth it.

Next cruise, we're gonna try Virgin...as stated above, its adults only and is supposed to have top quality service and accommodations.

Have fun!

Disney with kids is a No brainer. They know how to keep them occupied.

Princess>>>>>>> all the others listed.

lolpoors who feel the need to let every know their yacht is a "super" yacht, smdh If you gotta tell everyone it's a super yacht, it's not really a super yacht. It's just a boat.

Yeah, Progresso was our first stop on our first cruise, wasn't really impressed. All we have ever done at cozumel is go to one of the beach clubs, Nachi Cocum is our favorite, been there twice, it's all inclusive with a limited capacity Sonic doesn't get crowded and the food is pretty decent.

To answer the OP, we've been on Carnival 4 or 5 times and it is just fine, we spend more time hanging out on our balcony than by the pool, it's just a matter of what activities you choose to do.

We did a trip to Alaska on Oceania and it was a completely different experience, smaller boat, a lot less passengers, really good food, and almost no kids.

Dad has really wanted to do an Alaskan cruise and offered to pay for the whole family. Going on Princess.

Only other one I've ever been on was a Carnival when I was just out of school and poor. It wasn't bad either

We did that 4 years ago. Vancouver to Whittier followed by the train to Denali NP and time in their lodge just outside the park.

It's a nice cruise and the day trip into Glacier Bay NP is very cool.

I never thought I'd enjoy a cruise, but we did a Virgin cruise in November (Miami -> Key West -> Bimini -> Miami) and booked another that departs from Athens later this year the day after we got back. They should definitely be on your list if you're traveling without kids.

If you like to just relax on the deck all day while having some drinks, avoid Carnival. They have a 5 or 6 drink per day limit (which is understandable, given their clientele). I'd hit that by noon and then be bored as crap the rest of the day.

RC has an unlimited drink package for like $60/day. The ship we were on didn't have anything higher than mid range spirits, but I was still able to more than break even.
