Most impressive guy I know isn't famous. He's the father of a friend of ours and I could sit and talk with him for hours. He's an old Ag, helicopter pilot in Iraq, and life flight pilot until his retirement a few years ago. True hero in a life of public service and has no clue how badass he is... Just a regular dude.

BS'd with the lead singer of Blue Traveler during a couple breaks at little bar in Dallas right before they broke out in early 90s.

Gave a head nod to Lyle Lovett at Los Nortenos one night sitting in the booth next to ours.

Saw Eric Johnson at a little church auditorium show sponsored by a local guitar shop a few years before Cliffs of Dover came out.

I find it hard to believe all these famous people were actually cool. Some of them, sure, but a lot of them are probably dicks or nerdy or just boring people.

The coolest person I've ever met was Andre 3000. That dude is cool as ice. I spoke with him for a moment and told him something about my life I thought he would appreciate and he sincerely told me what I told him was cool. "Man, thats COOL." I can still hear the emphasis in his voice. It was complete coincidence that I saw him because my international return flights got all jacked up and I had to hoof it across the airport for a different flight.

I got to hang out with Lee Corso a few years back at the Presidents house. I don't know if it's the "coolest" person, but he was so genuine and such a happy man.

Charles Passel.

He was part of Byrd's third Antarctic Expedition in 1939-41. He developed the Wind Chill Factor (along with Paul Siple).

at least spell his name correctly - it's Miles Davis! And yes, his music was exceedingly cool (I listen to him pretty much every day), though he certainly had issues treating women with respect

The misspelling and subsequent disrespect the greatest jazzman in history is appalling.

However, "Myles" is the correct Aggie spelling of the name "Miles".

Roy Benavidez
MOH recipient in Vietnam. Voluntarily went in alone to help rescue a Special Forces patrol that had been overrun, he left so fast at the call he only had the knife on his belt. Helicopter that dropped him off got shot down and he spent 6 hours defending the wounded, was shot, bayoneted, clubbed in the head, and hit by multiple grenades, receiving 37 different wounds.

When another helicopter was able to land he did not get on until he got every wounded and dead solider on board, even accidentally loading up a dead NVA soldier, thinking it was one of the Montangard tribesmen that had been helping the patrol and unable to see due to all the blood from the pieces of shrapnel sticking out of his forehead. He got on the helicopter, holding his intestines in with his good hand and once they landed he was placed in a body bag, assumed dead. Jaw locked shut from being hit with the butt of a rifle, he was only able to spit out some blood to let the medic know he was alive before he was zipped up.

Dakota Meyer
He was doing a long range demo for a rifle company when I met him. He was spotting and giving wind calls while we got to try out the new guns. I guess one of the guys ahead of me didn't know who he was, he missed the target a couple of times and said Dakota was giving him bad wind calls. Dakota picked up the rifle and offhand hit the target at 990 yards first shot. Handed him the rifle back and said the wind call was good.

You're right, not every celeb you meet is cool.

Gene Simmons would be at the top of the dick list. I don't think that's a surprise to anybody.

What might surprise you is who were the biggest horn dogs I ever met.

Sully Erna from Godsmack was classy about it.

Spencer Davis (Spencer Davis Group) who was in his late 60s when I met him at a party in North Hills, was chasing tail and much to my surprise, getting it. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't getting all of it but the fact that anybody was buying what his old ass was selling shocked me. I just looked him up now. I didn't realize he passed during the LA lockdowns in 2020.

I met Rex Brown formerly of Pantera one night at The Rainbow in West Hollywood. Interesting guy but was definitely all about "mission accomplishment". One second we're talking about Texas, the next second, he's chatting up some pretty young thing. Can't blame him. Fun times.

I got to sit in the radio booth with Dave & Dave at Jones Stadium once. My buddy and I were figuring yardage for them. Dave E. was a really cool guy. I ignorantly didn't know his whole background. He let me hold his Super Bowl ring when I asked him about it. And I loved hearing his commentary during the game, both on the air and off.

I had a couple of occasions to hang out with Frank Beard while enjoying beer and BBQ. He has some amazing stories. We talked about money and houses (his is enormous) and he would always talk about how much more money he would have had except he snorted most of it up his nose.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Too many trips to Acuna for Frank, I reckon.

I met Karl Malone at the LA Tech game in Baton Rouge in 2012 (the great JFF game).

Ags kept coming up to him and saying hi and taking pics. He happily obliged everyone and was super cool about it. Big MoFo, too.

Met 3 stacks at a SXSW party that featured Questlove as the DJ back when interning for 20th Century Fox in college. As a senior in college who loved Outkast, I can confirm he's the coolest person I've met as well. Was nice enough to talk to a fan like me for 10 minutes.

Trained BJJ with Anthony 'Tony' Bourdain for 4 days when he was in Houston filming his show. He was super nice, low key and very cool.

He also had an impressive 6 pack for a guy his age.
Consistency: It's only a virtue if you're not a screw-up.
