It's always sad to me when someone of note dies right around the time that someone more famous dies. If not for the Queen's death, we would be watching highlights of his career on the news. As it is, he's all but forgotten. (And this is not to say anything negative about Q.E. II).

In a strange coincidence, one of the things I remember most about the time around Diana's death was that Mother Teresa died just a little while later. As I remember it, there were brief breaks in the Diana discussion to discuss M.T., but she didn't get the attention she deserved either.

I stayed up all night that first night of Desert Storm watching the coverage. He and Peter what's his name and someone else were holed up in the Al Rashid Hotel for some reason. It was must see tv!

Mother Teresa is remembered way more generously than she should be. She was kind of an evil psycho.

I was working at the chicken that night. We stayed up there all night after we finished closing.

Good times.

I was actually surprised that FoxNews took a few moments to mention his death during the coverage of the Queens passing yesterday. At least there is still some civility left with all of the animosity lately.

The gist of it, from her detractors, is that she believed that poor and downtrodden were there to present an example of Christ-like suffering, and that she could have done much more to actually help them.

So they're saying she was only superficially living her life in service to the poor? I'm gonna need some examples of this.

Yep we were called to duty running troop trains to New Orleans, a mile and a half train running 70 mph with armed soldiers on several cars all along the train. We were told if you laid off or missed a call you'd be fired on the spot. CNN was at the top of their game then. What a time to be alive, I really believed in Bush 1 at the time, I don't know what to believe anymore.

There were a lot of different things. Among the worst to me is allowing patients under her care to needlessly suffer and die because she thought it glorified God. Also accepting millions of dollars in donations and not actually using the vast majority of that money to help the people she's supposed to be helping.

Interesting. The 'response to criticism' section makes some good points. I agree that a lot of what I see for criticism seems to be around misunderstanding her catholic motives.

I understand that the poor and downtrodden exist only to scare the middle-class to keep working the grind. Heard that somewhere.

I don't know much of anything about Mother Teresa, but I'd be a little skeptical of an expose on her by Christopher Hitchens, who described himself as an "anti-theist". Not necessarily the kind of dude one would expect to offer an even-handed view of a Catholic nun doing what she perceived as God's work.

I'd feel the same way about the Catholic church putting out a documentary on Christopher Hitchens.
