Going in feet first for a lower body scan isn't bad. Head first for 45 minutes is the suck.
Close your eyes before going in and do not open them until it's done. Pretend you are somewhere else.

They made custom ear plugs for me years ago. Because of the tumors they took out my entire left ear and all inner ear mechanisms including the equilibrium. I need to protect my only remaining good ear.

I have 2 plugs. They are molded to fit my ear canal. One is a shooting/firearms plug that's deadens all sound. The other is a 15 decibel reduction plug. It allows me to go hear live music and still be able to enjoy. I take both to Kyle for the big games.

I'm very thankful to my team here in San Antonio, neurosurgeons Dr. Chris Bogaev, Dr Arnold Vardeman, head and neck surgeon Dr. Richard Newman (FTACO '72) , Anesthesiologist Dr. Bob Jones (FTACO I'm not sure! )and otolaryngology Dr. Susan Marenda-King. Also in Charlottesville VA, neurosurgeon Dr. Jason Sheehan, the absolute world wide best guru of the Gamma knife procedure. Without these folks I'm not sure how bad my life would have turned out. I live very normally now.

Wow. This is incredible. Glad there are fixes of sorts for these issues.

Wear ear plugs, that's all I got. Going in headfirst does suck.

Had one a few months ago after suffering a nasty stroke, to see which part of the brain i ****ed up.

Yeah. Thanks for asking. Recovery kinda sucks(paralyzed on my left side )but statistically, folks who have this kind typically dont make it,so i'm counting my blessings.

I'm supposed to take this MRI machine from Italy for a spin next week.

It's an Open MRI on its side. You just sit in the chair.

Even worse is when I had three sections of my spine and my brain, with and without contrast. Think I was in for just over an hour and a half.

I was getting MRIs every three months. I graduated to every 6. If my next appointment goes well, i get to bump it to every year. At this point, I typically fall asleep. All of mine are with and without contrast.
Basically, A&M's stadium is like the anti-Longhorn Network, a place everyone wants to be, but not everyone fits.

Had one in January 2022, very loud, no ear plugs, did not know/think to bring.

The noise? Yeah but plugs minimize it.

How do butt plugs help with the noise?

The vibrating ones act like noise canceling headphones

They didn't offer you earplugs?

I was having one pretty much every year from 2004 to 2020 to check the progression of my MS. We eventually stopped doing them with contrast, but I typically sleep through them now. When I am awake I lay there and try to make Daft Punk-esque rhythms in my head out of the sounds the machine makes.

RW

Dr. Bogaev was my neurosurgeon. Anyway, Dr. Bogaev is a wonderful man and an absolutely brilliant neurosurgeon and physician. I credit him fully for my current quality of life.
