I heard over the radio that they are trying to reduce inflation but it may cause a recession. Both are bad (some inflation is not bad and actually necessary).

So what would you choose? High inflation like we currently have or more, or a recession?

I'm confident we'll get both, but recession is probably the lesser evil compared to approaching 9% inflation.

I think the safest investment is a graduate degree in (insert hobby here) brought to you by federal student loans.

We're going to be in a very tough period of stagflation. Get ready!

I guess a recession because I'll probably be fine. My wages aren't gonna increase enough to keep up with this inflation any time soon.

Your mom gave me some inflation in my pants. After I dropped my Dow Jones on her portfolio, my pants went into recession.

Recession is bad for retirement accounts, inflation has the ability to collapse western civilization. Because people dont question what the fed is or why it exists, we will get both until oblivion.

Yeah, I'm also thinking we're heading for an Old El Paso "why not both" situation.

I made the mistake of looking at my brokerage account the other day.

I'll take a recession over rampant inflation any day of the week.

A self serving market with little to no government intrusion. Too many "maneuvers " being carried out to benefit politicians with no concern to the consequences on the masses.

All you guys wanting recession are assuming you keep your good paying job throughout the recession. Well, then, sure, why not. But recession means layoffs and chapter 11 for many. Maybe it's been so long since the last REAL recession, that nobody is thinking about losing their job this time.

Seems like if we could get energy costs under control over the next several months, pricing will start to regulate across the board. Interest rates should start to cool housing. I'm definitely seeing contraction expectations in my tech clients.

Its so bizarre to me that we as a civilization have decided that we should "target" an inflation rate. They rob us blind at a rate 2.5% every year, but when it hits 8.5% we're like "whoa, hem this thing in!". If 2.5% is good for economic growth 8.5% must be spectacular! So many open jobs! Just the money we pay you for those jobs is worth less every year!

And no one at the fed has lost a ****ing job despite the fact they said they never saw it coming. High school dropouts saw it coming, but not the fed chair or yellen.

One of my coworkers said "Somebody should do something" about the inflation and increasing interest rates. My boss said "they are.. they are causing it. The fed sets the rates" and he kept saying "but the government should do something about it. they should stop them!"

and then my soul wilted inside of my body.

The federal government should stop the private bank cartel that is the federal reserve. Its neither federal, nor a reserve.

I mean, yes we should audit and end the fed, but I am very certain that is not what my coworker was suggesting.

Inflation is bad for retirement savings (any type of savings, actually). Recession is bad for retirement accounts in the short run but not bad as long as recovery is robust enough.

Recession is bad for people who want to retire soon but find they are farther away because their 401k has shrunk in the short run.

Stagflation has historically also meant high unemployment. So far at least that doesn't appear to be a threat. (Fingers crossed)

We're lucky if it's even close to 9%

That 9% should be more like 19%. Inflation numbers are kind of bogus since they keep changing the way they're calculated and none of that crap is normalized.
