There are a few of those in Austin, and they're really not that hard to figure out.

There's something similar in College Station near the airport and west entrance to campus now.

It's called the "diverging diamond interchange".

They feel weird as hell at first but then it's no big deal. The one at Slaughter and Mopac is a significant improvement over what was there before.

The hard part was I was driving through at 7 AM in a Sunday morning. I'm sure you get used to it.

The number of head on collision are down; so they had to create these intersections to ramp them up.

These interchanges are great. Parmer and 1431 is a bigger version and have seen several others. Efficiency is good

The professors from the Texas Transportation Institute that taught the transportation design classes in civil engineering used to hammer home NOT to do stuff that drivers do no expect...

And then those same professors go out and do stuff that drivers do not expect. I can promise you that I will never design a road that I am liable for that has vehicles driving on the left side of the road.

I would assume TxDOT designed it. I'm sure they'll eagerly take a phone call to hear you beech at the 300 pound woman in her cubicle.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Ah yeah, that's the one there at the HEB. I almost went down the wrong lane on it the other day. There isn't anything but a small 6" curb dividing the lanes, which makes it more confusing.

You've said this before in threads....you don't know what you're talking about...if you aren't a practicing transportation engineer, quit playing one on TexAgs.

That is the stupidist thing ever I have seen. Who invented that? Was it the people who say 2+2=5? That men can have babies?

So... now... Left = right and right = left?

Confusing the first time but after you do it a few times, it's so much better than the old way.

Incidentally, I used this same line on one of my first girlfriends.

I know exactly what I'm talking about, and I am a practicing engineer. My PE seal is on hundreds of projects across the state. I believe that my duty to protect the health, SAFETY, and welfare of the public precludes me from designing any roads where you drive on the left side of the road. Since I am the department head, I can guarantee you that my company will not design one of these intersections as long as I am in charge. If you are willing to risk your PE license and livelihood on a diverging diamond interchange, go for it! I prefer to keep my license and our insurance premiums low and won't seal anything that I believe has decent chance of killing a driver for doing what every driver has been doing for a century.

You would never lose your license for designing something to code and approved by Txdot. Quit being dense.

It's at Pecan and 685. When they first opened it it was a complete disaster, but people figured it out now and the traffic is actually much better than it used to be. You just have to pay attention to the signs and the dashed lane markings that guide you to where you need to go.

I like the one at 1441 and 35 better than either of the other 2 mentioned. But it does have the luxury of overpasses. 1431 and Parmer seems better from an "turning into the correct lane" standpoint than 685 and Pecan.

side note, I hate videos that use those computer voices.

Diverging Diamonds don't properly account for Converging Idiots. As a result, you have to be very careful where to install them
