Why is skating after 35 such a beating?

Just takes soo long to get the balance and endurance back. Then, even a light fall ends up causing knee/elbow pains lasting weeks.

Last time I posted a picture, some of you made fun of my massively muscular calves (prob out of jealousy), so here's the same pic with minor editing.

Yep it's tough. The worst part is finding someone older than 12 for the couples skate on slow songs. Simply brutal.

This is what it looks like after 35.

This as close as you can get to surfing and snowboarding on land.

If you are looking for something to do, try it out and report back.

You can resell immediately because there is a market for these bamboo boards.

The bamboo flexes and dampens vibration.

The wheels are wide with good grip.

Only downside you got to ride it like a snowboard for the most part,

All 4 wheels stay on the ground at all times. You got to plan ahead because you cant skid to a stop,

It limits how bad you can **** up by default because you can't go faster than you can stop.

Its like riding on a Cadillac Escalade.

I rode it for around 8-months.

I commuted around in a dense urban area and also in the burbs and on paved bike trails.

The experience you get while riding exercises neuropathways that don't get used often.

You ride the thing and you use balance and muscles that you probably rarely get used in your day to day life.

Wakesurfing, surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding release a certain kind of dopamine.

Then I moved and gave the board away.

I regretted it and ended up buying a new board last year.

It was a different model with some shape to it. Curls up more at the edges where you can lean into sweeping turns like a snowboard.

On on a smooth surface its as close as you can get to surfing on land.

Name of the model was the Icarus.

The key is not to fly too high. You can only go as fast as you can stop. Its self governing. There is a limit to the **** you can get into on a board like this. And its more forgiving because it flexes with you.

They come in flexibility of 1, 2 and 3 being the most stiff. I'd start with a flex 2. If its for a kid, a flex 3, if you an XXL rider try a 2 first and move up to a 1.

The 2 is really forgiving. You can go over uneven terrain like its nothing.

The Icarus is a 1 and I might go back to a 2. The 1 is a faster board with less flex. So the problem is you get overconfident and fly too high.

I might order my original setup in a 2.

If you got access to a bike path with some elevation.

You can slalom downhill like you on a snowboard or skis. But you gliding along like you on a surfboard.

You brake by creating friction leaning into turns.

You get the right elevation drop and surface and you can ride a long way.

Ifs not as big of an issue to ride uphill. Momentum carries you along way.

The board is heavy and has some mass to it.

Remember how I built a board back in January?

Im fairly certain I fractured my wrist 2 weeks after, but it's still fun

Our bodies aren't nearly as resilient as they were when we were teenagers. The falls hurt so much more now

This the icarus.

Its got a little shape to it.

This as close as you gonna get to a back to the future hoverboard.

I don't recommend the stiffer bamboo if you don't already have a flexible board.

Start off with the medium flexible board. The most flexible board if you are a smaller / lighter person.

Even if you over 200 try the medium flex first.

Its snowboarding on land. That the best way to describe it.

The wheels roll right over sand and small gravel.

You still got to keep a close eye out and not hit anything big.

For example, you can go right over the dots at the crosswalk no problem.

The bigger wider wheels are the way to go.

In order to ride this board you use muscles and parts of your brain that you never use.

If you trying to stay fit and with sharp balance and coordination. This is a good way to do it.

I think this would help you with almost any other sport that requires balance, coordination and reaction time.

If you got a background in it, and you are older you can jump right in. That muscle memory is still there.

If you've never done it before, go to an empty basketball court and learn there.

That would be my recommendation.

Its the flex of the bamboo man. It's a bamboo board.

Its got energy built into the board.

The flex of the board can propel you forward.

Thats what is different about it.
