One two occasions, I have purchased a case of Diet Coke and both of them have turned out to be expired. How did I know? Because it taste like pure crap. Anyone else seeing this?

I've had a few instances of buying bottles of DC at gas stations way out in the boonies of northern NH, where there's a stale, kind of moldy smell around the top when I open it, but I've just tossed those few bottles and chalked it up to low turnover out in BFE.

Never noticed any issues with cans.

Solution: Drink Dr Pepper.

I bought a 12 pack from a convenience store like that. I assumed they just didn't move that many Diet Coke 12 packs and were too lazy to take it off the shelf.

Today I learned that every Diet Coke I've ever drank was expired

The artificial sweetener loses its sweetness. Barely expired is okay, but if it's way past the date it's no bueno.

Its happened enough that now I always look at the date on the box before I buy it.

Happened to me with a bottle of Diet Coke and a bottle of Diet DP over the weekend. Both were flat and nasty. They were singles from a liquor store, which I'd expect to move as/for mixers on the go.

I've begun checking the dates on the cans/bottles/boxes when buying diet drinks. They taste pretty bad when expired.

diet coke doesn't have to be expired to taste like pure crap!

For a few weeks, our local Kroger only had expired Coke Zero and we wouldn't figure it out until we got home (we used curbside pickup).

I finally took them back to Kroger and then walked a manager over to the coke aisle and showed him. He was pissed....and the coke rep just happened to turn down the aisle at that exact moment.

The coke rep apologized and took them all away....I have a feeling it has to do with coke switching to the new coke zero and trying to get rid of all their stock.

Expired... LOL.

My old nextdoor neighbors brother used to work at Silver Eagle. Every Friday, he would come by and drop off as much beer as we wanted to fill the refrigerator in our man caves. The catch was that the beer was "expired" as of that week. That was something like 10 years of free beer. It was great. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I miss that guy.

Once every 4-5 years I'll have a DC because I'm stuck where a regular Coke or DP is not available. Artificial sweeteners and I don't get along.

Side story about expired products. I played numerous sports with a friend whose grandfather had a candy route. After every practice he would give us free candy bars that were expired. We didn't care. Gamedays after a win we'd get handfuls of gumballs and other candies typically found in dispensers. Greatness.

That's a good idea. Maybe add a few tablespoons of sugar to account for the degraded DC sweetener?

That didn't stop a friend of mine from chugging a whole bunch of OK Soda a couple years past its due date. He was completely sober when he did it as far as I know anyway.

Diet sodas have a 13 week shelf life. I worked for DP so I do check the lot codes before I purchase.

Got an expired one from a machine once. Called the number on the can. They sent me a coupon for a free 6 pack.

Expired diet coke is fine as long as it's balanced with a Big Mac, LARGE fries, and fried apple pie.

I was just talking about this with someone at work. I have had 3 bottle Diet Cokes and 1 Mexican Coke that have all tasted flat. The most recent one today expires in 2 weeks.
