Little taco house on Isom is pretty legit for breakfast.

Is that the one next to a super sketchy little market? They do a good lunch too. Pretty hot salsa.

Rosario's I'll give you, La Fonda is hit or miss
Agree on La Fonda - however, when we go we usually use the back room and patio to have casual private parties. They do a great job. It's a lot less formal than doing the private Club Giraud thing.

So you can walk down almost any sidewalk in west San Antonio and stumble into some of the best Mexican food you've ever had. Why ask here?

This is akin to asking for a good Italian place in Rome.

Uppity and white? The hell? Is it pricier than mama Margie's yea, is it white? Absolutely not, hell most of the damn waiters speak Spanish better than English
Definitely not white. I used to go there fairly frequently when traveling for work. Last time I was there the waiter brought a side of peppers, which I mistakenly ate a handful of. Later the waiter came by and started laughing hysterically as I was clearly struggling with the heat and told the table that those peppers aren't for white people. Food was always great.

I like pretty much everyone mentioned here, might also add El Jarro to that list. Especially on a Friday night with the live band and dancing.

Soluna and Paloma Blanca both on Broadway are good. La Fogata is good. I've always enjoyed Jacala, it's been there forever.
Jacala on West Ave is my go to when I meet up with my Dad in SA.

It's literally 3 blocks from the house he grew up in - on Santa Barbara St.

Damn it's good food.

I've always gone there with my aunt and uncle. Anytime I'm with them and we're anywhere near there, that's where we are going.

La Fonda on Main (not the others) good food with a nicer, but relaxed atmosphere
Rosarios for what I would call a trendier vibe, with good food, but it can be noisy, especially for dinner
La Fogata has more of a hole in the wall kind of feel if you are there when it is cool and they have the plastic windows sealed up, but it is very nice if the weather is good and things can be opened up

I'm guessing you've never been to Rome then. Lots of great restaurants, lots of crap that cater to tourists.

That has not been my experience at all. Good Mexican food is pretty scarce in San Antonio relative to other major cities in Texas IMO.

Lol, there is a lot of good Mexican food all over the city, definitely better and more abundant than any other Texas city.

I think Houston and San Antonio are about even. They both have great Mexican food. Austin and Dallas are inferior but good Mexican can be found in both.

Houston is trash, you'll find better African, oriental and Latin American cuisine, San Antonio owns the market on Mexican
