I get it. I did it about a year after our son. Wife was not necessarily old but we were happy with a family of three and the risks of complications just did not make sense for a 3rd child...while we would have obviously loved if a 3rd happened...was not something we were wanting / needing so we removed any chance.
As a society we are getting people pregnant later and later in life and I have seen (including family members) increases in lost pregnancies and kids born that are definitely a bit 'slower' than average. On top of that, having a kid at 40+ and you are going to effectively be a grandparent when the kid is just a senior in high school. Its like tossing a reasonably active retirement out the window. Does not make sense personally...but obviously everyone has different situations so what is right for me may be completely wrong for another.
