We were able to take our old phones. Moving forward, we've bought unlocked iPhones directly from Apple and just changed out the SIM card.
We pre-pay our plans by the year. There are no "family plans." Everyone is on an individual contract, but you are able to set up a group thru their app for record keeping.
We had an unlimited data plan with Verizon. Talk about taking it right in the b-hole every time I paid that bill. I had been with them for almost 20 years. I reviewed my wife and I's average monthly data usage and chose our plans based on that average. When we first switched, I was watchful of going over our data. I've only gone over 1 month, and it is very easy to add more.
No complaints on coverage. It's on the T-Mobile network. Someone above mentioned a dead spot around Llano. That's accurate. Still dead on Mint, but I have service in Mason, which I didn't have on Verizon. Day-to-day, all my traveling is is within the triangle of Houston, Austin, and Dallas.
If you're looking at Mint, I'm sure you are aware that Ryan Reynolds has a pretty large stake in the company. You should hear some of the voicemails he leaves on our phones. Pretty funny. On Mother's Day, he sent a text out to call a number that had a 30-minute pre-recording of him telling the story of Hansel and Gretel. The purpose was so that mom could put it on speaker in front of the kids, and go have 30 minutes to herself.
Most importantly, my service takes care of me on the daily. Next, it's so much more affordable. $240 per year, per phone with 10 GB of monthly data per phone. They also have a 15 GB ($300) and Unlimited plan ($360). The Mint app is intuitive. And the little personal touches are nice add-one.
Now that you have my review, if you decide to make a move, shoot me a PM. They've had a referral promotion thing going on that ends August 24. If I refer someone who signs up, I get $100 per sign-up. I've never cashed in on any of their promotional periods, but I know I've converted some people. My parents switched over to Mint a few months after I did. They were also Verizon.
