I'm not sure where the money came from originally, but his name is Wallace Phillips. The Phillips Center (aka the old Briarcrest County Clubhouse) is named after him and he donated to the City of Bryan.

Ugh, it would be so annoying having to circumnavigate the island everytime you needed to get to the fridge while cooking.

I like the aesthetic apart from the kitchen layout and media room. It beats a lot of the ugly fake french castles that were being built in the 2000s.

Curious about the standalone hot tub instead of it being built into the pool area.

I get the feeling that somebody came up with a rendering of this, and then the owner turned it over to his subcontractors and said, "You guys just work it out". I would bet that a comprehensive set of architectural drawings does not exist for this house. It looks like an acoustic nightmare with all the hard surfaces, and the mini split mounted on the wall in one of the rooms does not bode well for its HVAC functionality.

1. I doubt the owner has a bunch of carpet crawlers running around, so who gives a chit about acoustics when it's just himself and the wife? Also, open is what is in now as opposed to a bunch of walled off rooms that really feel cramped.
2. Regarding the AC...you're thinking with your wallet and not the wallet of a guy that currently has a ~6,000 sq/ft house and 300+ acres on the market for $7 million. Also, I bet that thing is insulated to the tilt and is probably a lot more energy efficient than most of our houses.
