But he did keep a few stores and named them TaCasita which had the exact same menu as TC. The split was over whether to expand or stay local to SA.hillcountryag86 said:
Interesting trivia -- Taco Cabana was started in the late 70's by two brothers. One had been in the restaurant / bar business before. His brother, Mike Stehling, was a high school band director. Mike sold his share in the 80's. Doubt he made much as a band director. And he sold out before the chain really took off.
Interesting. Didn't know that. Mike Stehling was a band director in Bandera and we always thought it was interesting he was part of a very prominent restaurant chain, although he got out of it before it really took off.Old RV Ag said:But he did keep a few stores and named them TaCasita which had the exact same menu as TC. One issue with TC was their lack of consistency from location to location. We had 3 within 10 minutes of our house and the difference between them was significant.

My favorite TC memory was back in '99 or '00, late night with the post-bar crowd waiting in line to get my drink staring laser beams at the most perfect backside I'd ever seen in a pair of jeans in front of me, it was magical.
She gets her drink and goes off to her table and the security guard that loitered by the soda fountain just sort of nodded and said, "she fine". I nodded back. Total bro moment between a college student and a middle aged security guard.
I'm surprised that didn't occur to me.Sea Speed said:chimpanzee said:

TC is my go to for breakfast tacos. I like loading them up with Pico and Salsa.

It's will be OK, that California company will probably be moving to Austin soon, like all the rest.

So TC HQ will move from San Antonio to Austin by way of California. Sounds about right.
