Dressing like a slob at the airport was a theme in the Trashy Things People Do thread. What do you consider "proper" dress for men and women at the airport?

Comfortably which means shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers.

I'm ok with yoga pants on women travelers as long as they have a decent body. If you're ugly or fat or both why even leave the house.

Flying for work or in business class, sport coat.
Personal flying, nice jeans and or shorts and a collared shirt.

Sweats and pajama pants shouldn't be worn in public, ever.

Flip flops, athletic shorts and a dry-fit tshirt. Because f*** your feelings.

If someone else's attire upsets you, you deserve to be upset.

Usually jeans and boots so everyone knows I'm from Texas, especially if traveling internationally.

This isn't 1964, where flying is a novelty for the wealthy looking to display their social status. As long as someone is socially presentable, they should be fine. It's a bus that moves through the sky.

I'm more concerned about passenger hygiene than dress. I was on an international flight with a stopover in Sri Lanka once, and it was "fragrant".

I wear yoga pants and a "nice" yoga top. I always wear closed toed shoes. Sandals in the airport always seem gross to me.

People aren't just judging what the clothes are, its the total package. In reality, people aren't caring what the hot chick in pajamas is wearing. People aren't calling out the attractive people when they say to dress nicely when traveling.

They generally mean don't be a slob. If you are overweight, you'll look like a slob much more quickly when dressing for "Comfort". That is just a fact of how most people perceive things. Wearing properly fitting clothes will usually be comfortable for anyone and will make you look the best you can.

I generally travel in jeans (not torn or faded) and well fitting plain T-shirts. Comfortable but still wouldn't worry about running into my client while traveling for work (O&G). Shoes are usually whatever my biggest pair of shoes for that trip are so I don't have to pack them. Size 14 footwear takes up a lot of space, so I will save that by wearing it.

The only exception to this for me is if I am flying from or flying to a very cold place.

If I have a choice, I usually wear jeans, polo, and loafers. Easy, comfortable, presentable, and the shoes are quick on/quick off for security and the pair that I prefer not to get crushed in my bag.

My pet peeve is less about what clothes and more about hygiene. Sorry you had to get up early, but maybe a quick shower before you jam yourself into a tin can with 200 other people for three hours? I can close my eyes or look somewhere else, but I'm obligated to breathe.

Lol at men who wear athletic shoes or shorts out in public for purposes other than excercise. Also trashy slobs who wear pajamas in public. Leggings on attractive women are always ok

If I'm flying more than 4 hours I'm dressing comfortable. That includes "athletic shoes" with nice jeans and a collared shirt. No the shoes aren't white kswiss like a grandpa.

Also- what's wrong with shorts??

Or am I missing the sarcasm

I've found that you get better service if you're dressed nicely. I think it's because it lets the FAs know that you're not likely to behave like a jackass. I usually wear jeans and a nice blouse or a maxi dress and I always put my kid in a dress.

Comfortable for sure is fine, but should be dressed like you're going to lunch and not to the beach (ie hav sleeves).

I dress smart and respectable and feel it has paid off with travel complications, not if but when they occur. I grew up in a country where you were not allowed to enter if your hair was to long. Actually carried brylcream to slick my locks back.

The problem with leggings is that they make them in sizes they shouldn't, and that people they and fit into sizes they have no business messing with

When I was a kid, my dad worked for a major airline and we could fly for free. Employee and family dress code on board was pants/collared shirt in coach for men; slacks/skirt/dress and a blouse for women. Dress code in first class added a jacket for men and required women to be in a skirt or dress. That was late 1990s/early 2000s.

Anymore, my travel attire really depends on what I'm doing when I get off the plane.

There are days when I'm fully suited up to fly because when I land I'm in an uber to a client meeting or the courthouse. For the same trip, I might be flying back in shorts, comfortable shoes, and a polo because I'm headed home to hang out with my kids.

For international long haul, I usually wear comfortable athletic type pants that look presentable, running shoes, and long-sleeve technical shirt.

On a long weekend trip with the wife to, say, NYC, and we take the Thursday afternoon flight, I'm usually in whatever I will wear to the restaurant where we have reservations.

Never look sloppy, just usually dressed for what happens after we land.

Who cares what you wear when you travel as long as it's clean and you've showered. What matters way more in terms of service is how you treat people who are working to serve you. If you're an ass, you could be dressed like Don Draper and it wouldn't mean extra benefits. Always thank your flight attendants and be cordial.

Running shoes for international travel is like wearing "I'M AN AMERICAN TOURIST" sign. Fanny pack and cell phone holster are optional accessories.

Same here. You have to take your shoes off to go through security and I'm not walking barefoot where gross people have also walked barefoot.

Only lolpoors travel without pre-check/global entry and hang out anywhere but the admiral's club (that is... in the unfortunate circumstances when flying private isn't feasible)
