Making Kool Aid from a packet where you had to add multiple heaping cups of sugar into a normal sized pitcher. Even 7 year old me was questioning exactly how it could be remotely ok to consume that much.

I'd actually occasionally eat most of the same 70'scsnd 80's "mom cooked foods" but they were mostly made with cost and not health in mind.
I like a sloppy Joe, or fish sticks, or a frozen burrito doctored up, or a spam sandwich, but that's stuff you can't eat in a 2 week rotation any more.

This. I passed by some Manwhich a few months back and told my wife we had to get some and have it for dinner one day because I loved it as a kid. we whipped it up and it was god awful

Without a doubt. A few years back I tried to see if I could purchase one, unfortunately you had to purchase 50 of them, as that was their minimum.

When I was a kid I was served a solid rotation of a dish called salmon patties which was basically a crab cake with canned salmon instead of crab.
Same on the salmon patties - a staple growing up. Plus tuna croquettes that I think were mentioned earlier. And our pear salad was most of the time pineapple instead of pears but the miracle whip and cheddar cheese were of course there.
