I lived on a solid rotation of fish sticks, Kraft mac and cheese and Ragu on spaghetti. Sloppy joes made a regular appearance. I think my mom's plan was anything easier than Hamburger Helper would be considered.

There's a candy store in the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall that sells both candy cigs and Big League Chew.

I like the taste of Spam well enough, I just don't care to eat foods that are that heavily processed.

Lunch as a kid was often a Spam sammich and a bowl of Top Ramen.

I don't think that was a poor man's dish, but I do think it is more southern oriented. We had it when I was growing up and we were firmly middle class. I introduced it to my kids and will occasionally bring it back when my kids (now grown) are around.

My mom's ****ty brisket. Broiled at 400 till it was grey all the way through and sliced with the grain.

Beats the hell out of me. When I was eating this stuff, I wasn't the one making the decisions as to what I was fed, so it wasn't something I really worried about.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say they're using some combination of cured and uncured pork.
