You're playing 42 and someone says "Chicken rules" What do they mean?

I can see the validity of splash and plunge bids. Way more than 7s. I see them as last ditch efforts to catch up or if it's tied up at 6 and opponent bids strong...I likely don't have much of a chance to win so why not gamble a little bit. My odds aren't great anyway and I might be able to squeak it out.

I won't go completely blind (partner passes? I'm not likely to bid splash or plunge unless we're way behind) generally but if I have a hand that would normally call for a 2 marks bid and my partner already bid (the higher the better) and I think we can steal an extra mark or two, yeah I'll do it.

Feels like splash and plunge are if the NBA had a 5 point shot from half court or something. Just a compeltely different rule that makes it a completely different game. You are playing one game for one or two marks with one set of rules, then suddenly just because they are from behind the game changes to have different rules for twice the number of marks?

Does everyone else stack dominos on straight up 42 or 84 bids?

Mark, no. Two marks, yes.
Mark or better gets stacked.
We always played that the bid had to be 2 marks or higher to stack.

Result is sometimes you would bid 2 marks with a questionable hand in the hopes of hiding a walker that would easily be seen if not stacked.

I played for years with a group that had an interesting twist on 42: "blind nello." This was a tactic that could win a game when you were down 6-0. In a 6-0 game, a player bidding last can choose not to look at his dominoes (leave them face down) and call blind nellow for 7 marks. Blind nellow player picks up his dominoes and plays it from there. Lots of tension and fun as it gives the team way down a chance to win. Have managed to win a blind nello hand a few times.

I've gotten very different explanations over the years as to what Chicken rules are.
Cheating is allowed. I'd be weary about that people(s) on the other team who want Chicken rules.

I mean why not make last minute touchdowns worth twenty points while we're at it.

Been playing for a 40+ years, only place I ever played Splash and Plunge was when I was in Aggieland in the early 80s. I had heard of near 7s, but never heard it called 7s...didn't play it. Grew up in South Texas farming community and we played a lot, but I never got as good at it as some of my brothers did. We always played that the forced bid was minimum 30, low could be played anytime and doubles were low, high, or suit of their own. 2 marks + were stacked. Also, being Czech, the word we used for low was 'Zebroc' (spelling doesn't look right) or something like that.

Yep. Who gives a **** who has played the best consistently, let's all line up for 60 yard field goals and if someone makes it they win the SuperBowl.
