Psh, like I waste my time taking classes.

Are you trying to compare yourself to Franklin's and Snow's?
The methods are similar. (but no, I'm not) No Trager. Pellets are for people who don't know how to smoke. It is literally the marketing. "Set it and forget it." Do not think for one second that pellet smokers are comparable to actual smoking meat with sticks and smoke. It isn't. It is for people who can't be bothered to try and learn it.

Pellet smokers have been around since the 80s. They threw an app on it, did some great marketing on ESPN Gameday, and all the suburban dads who have long since financed their wife and her boyfriend's vacations are all tripping over their oversized crocs and Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirts to be play keeping up with the Joneses on getting silly toys.

I will never be impressed with anybody's skill level of cooking when they use a Trager. Ever. I will always be impressed with people who can get sticks and smoke to do what they want it to do.

You enjoy your "sensory experience" while you serve your "friends" overcooked crap that they are afraid to tell you sucks because you spent so long and so much wasted effort. If they were real friends, they would tell you, "dude you are wasting your time." But instead, they roll their eyes behind your back and wish somebody would speak up. Just because you are a Franklin wannabe doesn't make you "understand" squat. Go ahead and pretend you do though. It's hilarious.
LOL, you think I have friends. Jokes on you buddy.

Terrible analogy of someone who knows that pellet smokers are basically ovens with smoke instead of a BBQ pit.

So how does your traditional manly stick smoker work? By maintaining temperature where you want it and letting the meat sit in smoke?

Kinda sounds sounds like an oven with smoke.

Don't you know? When sticks are compressed into pellets, they no longer are "wood". And feeding wood in by hand rather than with an auger until the temp reads X adds magic stick fairy dust to it. And dare not have thermometers in the meat. You need to look at it and sing some Indian folk song to understand the state of the meat spirit through osmosis. And if you do have a thermometer, it better not be wireless. You need to be sitting right next to the meat so that you can talk to your imaginary friends and pretend to "understand wood".

I gotta say, I'd be a helluva lot more impressed by a brisket done on an easy bake oven than either a pellet or srick smoker.

Pitts and Spitts- they're out of Houston. Pricey but checks both boxes- US and TX made.

This is the right answer. Much higher quality than Traegar and the paint will last more than a few months (Yoder paint quality is embarrassingly bad).

I love mine.

If you don't know how to cook, sure, they are effective.

They are boring to me and not nearly as satisfying as using actual wood and actual fire (as there is art to that).

But you do you.
I'm not sure keeping a fire going and adjusting some dampers to maintain a desired cooking temperature is really an "art".

Wanna know how I know your BBQ sucks?

None of the pellet smokers are honestly. You can get a trap door in P&S and it would perform similarly or better to any other pellet smoker on market.

I have never investigate the many ways in which one can't cook. Seem irrelevant though. Yeah, I don't wanna know.

I have a Yoder and for me, you should not go without these 3 for sure. Also, go ahead and spring for the 640 vs 480. Worth the extra $200.

  • Fitted Cover
  • Stainless Steel Grease Shield
  • Direct GrillGrates with Tool

I got the griddle as well but haven't used it yet.

Jealous the "Two Piece Heat Diffuser with Access Door" is now a Standard Feature. Had to fork out $189 when I bought mine this past fall.

Well it costs substantially more. so does it check the box of better than Traeger? All for buying local but not at double the price.

That's the point of buying local

FWIW Just leaving David's Stove Shop in Weatherford. Grill guy there said bang for the buck, Traeger is best. New owners fixed the quality issues. Pitts and Spitts, Yoder thicker steel just means recovery time takes much longer after opening the grill and makes them impossible to load in your truck.
