Best neighborhoods other than palm? Best schools? How to find a nanny/maid? Best Golf course memberships? Buy or lease a car? Thanks in advance

Emirates Hills is a nice neighborhood with a great golf course and not too far from the Swiss International Scientific School. Lease a car and talk to locals about how to get a good slave.

Avoid Dubai and all ****hole countries run by primitive cultures

Talk to folks who have lived there, but I think you'll find:
- British schools are preferable to American
- Getting a driver's license is tough
- Your maid/house boy will shamelessly steal from you, especially your liquor

Make sure you get hired help from someplace you like the cuisine from. Also a crap-ton of cameras for your place including cameras watching the cameras.

Years ago I was in Dubai and had to take a crap so bad I pulled over and asked where the nearest porta potty was... would you believe a local directed me to the swanky home of a sultan? I knocked in the door and some young American chick answered and informed me it would be 5K just to take a poop!

Now I understand why those Arabs are so rich: they charge exorbitant amounts for letting you poop in their house. I guess the American girl was on a co-op or internship, and she was learning how to bring this business idea to America?!

We lived there for two years, but without kids so probably a very different experience than you're going to have. It's a wonderful place to live if you're white and relatively affluent. If you'd like to pm me I can put you in touch with a friend who was actually born and raised there and lives there still. I'm sure she'll have the scoop on the best neighborhoods and schools.

I've flown through it a few times but never to it. Someone I worked with from Australia lived there a while and seemed to enjoy it. It's apparently a pretty nice place with internet things to do, at least for westerners. There's a subtle hierarchy of expat status. Brits and the commonwealthers are on top, with Americans and Western Europeans next, then others, as it was described to me.

You know how old folks in RVs have a map of the US that they fill in as they visit each state? Well, I think you should get a globe and color in each country that you poop on someone from.

Congrats! I'm jealous. Everyone I have known that lived/lives in Dubai went to the American School of Dubai.

I think buying vs leasing depends on how long you expect to live there for. I would recommend a larger SUV as it pays to be bigger on the road there.

I have family friends that still live there if you need American contacts to talk to.
