Couple of you are also missing wish lists. Especially if you're newer users or lurkers, give us some ideas as to things you want or like. You're by no means guaranteed to get anything on your list, but it's a lot more fun to shop for someone if we have some general guidelines to go by.

Take a look at other participants' lists for ideas. For example, EFE's list is full of pornography and outdoorsy items, while AliasMan02's (Whoop!) is chock full of D&D books and Star Wars stuff - both pretty representative of their respective personalities. To show that hope springs eternal, The Fife has a 1998 Acura NSX (manual transmission only) on his list.

Try to make it fun for your Santa. At least put up an indicative sort of list of the types of things you like.

Are you a new GB poster or using a new handle? If you're not known 'round these parts is doubly important to post a list.

The purpose is to give others an idea of your interests, hobbies, etc so it can guide their choices for your. Or, to guarantee that you'll get something you want.

But you might like gambling, in which case please prepare for a curated collection of cat tshirts.

The joy is for your Santa getting to know you a little and the kind of things you like and not having to make random guesses about what you might enjoy.

If you're shopping for friends and family you know their likes and dislikes. A random person from the internet not so much. So this gives your Santa at least a little something to work with.

Having a posting history also helps people figure out some of your likes and dislikes

As others have said, the list is a guideline. Your mileage may vary, but I typically like to buy one thing from the list (or based on something from the list) and some other things, generally humorous, based on personality or posting history. For example, a few years ago, I drew Geralt of Rivia - I gave him some cooking thing off of his list, but since I knew he liked wrestling, I also got him some early '90s WCW trading cards from ebay.

Likewise, I believe that 80s Guy had me last year. He looked at my list and saw that I had fajita seasonings on it - rather than buy that item, he sent me a smorgasbord of different seasonings from a local company (along with some moonshine). Great gift.
