Only time I seen David Allen Coe was at Billy Bobs he was doing his live album and was pretty decent.
Now on the flip side tried to see Gary Stewart a bunch of times and he either to drunk to finish his set or couldn't play
Never saw David Allen Coe, but I was so fired up to see Gary Stewart. I grew up with my mom playing Stewart albums and love his music. Showed up to the Hall of Fame super excited. Left the Hall of Fame super disappointed. That dude had problems.
The best old timer I have seen is Johnny Rod in Navasota. Dude played for 2 hrs straight. Incredible show. Saw him about 6 years ago and he still put on a good show but was tired out after about 45 mins.
If we can ever go to shows again there's a few of the old timers out there that should be seen. They are still putting on incredible shows.
Johnny Lee (Lookin' for Love). He is downright hilarious. He could have been a stand up comedian if the singing thing didn't work out.
John Connely (Rose Colored Glasses) A true gentleman and still has an incredible voice.
Hal Ketchum (Small Town Saturday Night). He's a bit of an Austin hippy now, but still a good show. Tons of hits.
Rick Trevino (Bobbie Ann Mason) He's an Aggie! This dude is an incredible talent.
Mark Chesnutt (Brother Jukebox) Beaumont boy. One of those shows where you'll be saying "He did that song?" all night long.
Radney Foster (Just call me Lonesome, Texas in 1880). Originally from Del Rio. Foster has penned more hit songs for others than he has ever recorded for himself, but he is no slouch on the microphone. This guy is a country hit machine.
Saw Rick at the Poteet Strawberry Festival a few years ago and he was still great. Got to sit and talk with him for about 30 mins. Good guy.
One of the best Old timers I have seen besides Johnny Rod was Vern Gosden. I never realized he had so many good songs.
Vern's former piano and fiddle player is the Director of CTE for Bryan ISD. He also still; plays the occasional gig and leads the band at the Cowboy Church of Brenham.
