How is Seattle to live in?

I am considering a move to the West Coast as that is the place for my kind of jobs. Seattle is among the places I am considering. I have been in the downtown area but I cannot live there. The suburbs when I look through Google Street View seem like it's in the middle of a forest. It's just trees and trees and vegetation everywhere. Is that the case everywhere? If you are a Seattle area resident, is that something you like?

Green trees are an improvement over gray skies.

How do you feel about rampant homelessness, drug needles lying on the ground, people defecating in storefront areas, 100 days of rioting and looting, a police department that can't defend itself much less you, your home, or your family, a DA that refuses to prosecute criminals, and businesses being lit on fire on a daily basis?

Not to mention rain 290 days out of the year. If that sounds like your cup of tea go for it.

Recent events have destroyed my view of the city. Most of it is artificially made or paid for but, nonetheless, that's not what I think of when I think of a US city. West coast tourism will be impacted.

I lived in Mill Creek, which is north of Seattle close to Everett where I worked. Some areas are more heavily forested than others due to the rain shadows. Storms coming off the Pacific are split by the mountains on the Olympic Peninsula and some areas just don't get as much rain.

Housing is expensive af so prepare your anus.

I loved it - my wife hated it. Wearing a jacket to the 4th of July parade is - different.

From October 1 to March 1, the forecast is - pretty much every day - a high of 44 and a low of 40 with drizzle all day.

It's a wonderful place to visit...

This statue stands in a "hippie" part of town:

I couldn't live there.
In 70 years the Socialist have won without firing a single shot. This is their Cold War. A lukewarm congrats to the victors.

Our only hope is a Civil War, a very unlikely scenario OR secession of at least 10 states in the South and Midwest, again unlikely OR another Trump-like Presidential candidate that cuts through the political correctness, the social bullsh6t, to expose the corruption, the media(social) bias, the Dem lies and deceit. I fear it may be too late - I truly think it is.

Terrible traffic, lots of libtards burning ****, wild fires every year due to forest mismanagement, great coffee, awesome summers, excellent outdoor possibilities if you're into it.

If you live outside of town then just be prepared to waste 2-3 hours of your day driving, unless you mainly work from home.

Thanks for all the replies.

How would the commute look like? I am looking at Sammamish/Issaquah as a potential place to live. How do people who live there commute to the city? I don't think there are trains, is there? Bus? How long does it take in typical rush hour?

I have a good friend that has lived in Seattle for 25+ years and is trying to get out of there as quickly as possible.

I don't know if it's just my group of friends, but every single person I know in Seattle is trying to make arrangements to move away ASAP, most of them to Idaho specifically.

I personally love it there; the weather and the scenery along with the ability to actually enjoy outdoor activities really appeals to me. But with a school-aged kid, I don't think I could live there. The stuff I've heard kids being exposed to in the public schools is disturbing. When my daughter is grown, I'll seriously consider a move to the PNW for sure.

Look at Olympia and Tacoma too. They're close enough to enjoy the benefits of Seattle but far enough away from the crazy.

Never lived there, but have visited the area a number of times for work. This is my impression too.

C@LAg on the politics board lives in Seattle I believe. You may want to reply to one of his threads and I bet he'll answer a lot of your questions....I think he lives there.

My in-laws lived in Issaquah (20 minutes west of Seattle) for 15 years. If you can afford the real-estate (they just sold a 3 bedroom house for 1 million), I think it's as nice of place to live as anywhere else. There's enough activities to do nearby you won't even be bored on a weekend.

A lot of people want to quickly say the weather is terrible but I've visited enough times to cover all the seasons, and you're just trading some overcast and drizzle in Seattle for extreme heat/storms/etc. in Texas. The weather is pretty tolerable and still allows you to get outdoors most of the time.

I lived there for two years and those months on end of cold drizzle wear on you.

One positive that I can add, Seattle does have a good active A&M club. You'll have some Ags to watch all the football games with at game watching parties. I'm not sure how COVID will impact that this year though.
