He has had 2 seizures today. So first and foremost please pray for him.

Almost positive it's not COVID , but they wont let me in the hospital. They said I can switch out but then my wife can't get back in. Any tips on how to get around that horrible policy?
Claude!

I will pray for your son and for you and your wife. Seizures can be brought on by many things. I am not a doc but my son had seizures when he was little and now hasn't had one in fifteen years. The same was true for a guy I went to high school with. I hope and pray your son's seizures subside and go away and that he grows up healthy.

Prayers lifted for your family.
I had a couple seizure episodes as an infant. Docs weren't able to diagnose the cause, but they stopped after the first shot of cortisone. Haven't had one since and I'm 40 now.

Ct came back clear. So no major head trauma, like a brain bleed or swelling or fracture.

Still wont let me in. They told my wife she cant leave. They also said we can switch so which is it? How does it make sense that I can go in the room, just not at the same time as my wife? She said she needs me... apparently they don't care.

I am praying.

I know many people who's children have had seizures, and then nothing comes of it. I pray this is the case.

It's just wrong. I hope they come to their senses and let me in tomorrow.

Limiting access in hospitals is nothing new. However, the kind of restrictions currently in place are done in the interests of protecting all patients during a pandemic, and that is new. Many doctors and hospitals are starting to question policy, especially in areas where hospitals have not been swamped by COVID-19 cases. Do you live in an area (like NYC or Boston) where they are struggling to get things under control, or are you the victim of a corporate policy that has been imposed nationwide, regardless of local circumstances? What is the appeal process? Do you work through your doctor? Hospital administrators? How do you go about overriding the policy? I'm curious because I had a neighbor who ran up against this rigid policy recently. Very tragic situation where they were octogenarians who were both hospitalized and were not allowed to see each other. He died. She recovered without being able to see him. Their family is furious.

I live in the boondocks, and we got transferred to texas Childrens Woodlands. It's not swamped the hospital is empty. There is no excuse for me not to go in. Every doctor I've talked to said the policy is bogus.

Let your wife stay as long as wants to. Relieve her only if she asks you to. It's not fair to you and your desire to be close to your son in this time of worry and fear, but it will drive her insane to not be there. My daughters were micro-preemies born at 23 weeks 5 days and in the NICU for 5 months, and whenever something scary happened and my wife was not there, she beat herself up about it and has carried the guilt for years. Do everything you can to support her while she's there and activate every source of help you have to get you guys through it until he's back home safe - this is the time for your family and friends to be there for you. Don't be afraid to ask anyone for any kind of help.

I was really hoping someone from hospital administration was on texags and could help. I'm so sorry you aren't able to be there and can only communicate via phone. At the very least, the doctors should be willing to phone conference with the absent parent any time anything is discussed. It sounds like that is one of the things that is stressful for your wife.

She is physically exhausted at this point and just needs me there to hold him. There is a lot going on that is just wrong. Borderline medical malpractice, and I'm not in there to advocate. My wife is too nice to insist on better treatment.

I have great faith in God, to the point that I'm honestly not even worried that my son wont be fine. At this point I'm just furious about how poorly hospital staff has treated us. The hospital is empty and they are acting like they are busy and nobody can help just give her a break to hold the baby. She has had 3 hours of sleep max and is breaking down, but they are acting like there is no problem. Sad thing is it would be solved if I could go hold the boy myself.

I cannot imagine what would drive such a rigid policy under your circumstances. My sister was a long time ICU nurse before she retired. She speaks highly of the medical professionals she worked with over the years, but she says there is a special place in Hell for hospital administrators.

Hopefully it's only a febrile seizure. Both of my sons have had them. Some kids under 5 are susceptible to them when they have fevers. They don't cause damage and are not an indication of anything serious.
