No political correctness. - i.e. why cant I say ----- any more?

The SJWs of those days were actually fighting against these same old white people that now long for these days of yore for a meaningful cause. - fify

There wasn't a whole generation of folks that would rather interact with their phone than other people. - damn kids and their comic books/tv/rock and roll

Lower taxes. -you might want to look into what the top margin tax rate in the 1950 was.

Communists were ostracized. But yet society was pretty socialist at the time with unions being in their heyday

It was ok to ridicule people that were subsidized by your tax dollars. - pretty sure farmers were ridiculed then any more than they are now.

Furries didn't exist. - if this a concern, you should probably look at your peer group.

Guns and ammo were relatively cheap. - might want to bust out an inflation calculator

Did I mention less federal government interference in your daily life? - you might want to look up lee a****ers quote
Skinny jeans and Uggs didn't exist. - oh lordy fashion changed
Coffee was served in a mug whose size wasn't spoken in Italian. - no one even the dude at starbucks will bat an eye if you say "medium drip" and by they way you are living in the golden age of coffee...enjoy it by staying out of a Starbucks
Children didn't require 24/7 surveillance. - they still dont
Children could be spanked in public and were generally more respectful towards their elders. - you are half right. Ypu could best your kids but they still thought you were an idiot.

Skinny jeans and Uggs didn't exist. - oh lordy fashion changed

But the bullet bra and the girdle did exist.

No, we literally still do this exact thing, except we no longer do it for masturbation or homosexuality. ECT is the most effective therapy for treatment resistant depression and bipolar disorder.

I tell the wife all the time I think I was born about 150 years to late...

I am absolutely sure about 2 things...

1. I would with without a doubt built a freaking 5 bedroom mansion of a log cabin. Complete with gun wells, fire pit, smoke room, etc... It would have been be bad a$$! Everybody would come to my house on Sunday to butcher the cow...

2. I would have been killed by Indians at some point...

People who feel like they are living in the wrong generation are usually just trying to cope with the fact that they're failing in the current generation. It would have been the same failure in the 60s, just way less comfortable.

tell that to the millions of millenials who are can't function in normal society because once u leave mommy and daddy and get a ribbon a day for farting public school real life is too damn hard.

He was actually proving Tobias' points - in this up case he proved that anger and self adsorption are not specific to a generation.

Not exactly the same as general anesthesia is used today.

Nothing other than It peaked in popularity around 1903 and has never been popular since, so it always brings to mind someone old.

They still have those baby cribs for planes. However, instead of hooking them to the overhead bins they hook to the bulkhead walls. Thats what those metal clips are for on the walls.

I was born in 1946, so the fifties were a great time for me. Of course, the fact that I was born White gave me an advantage I wasn't aware of for quite a long time.

Overall, because of the sexism and racism that were the norm in that society, I'll give it a Thumbs Down. And those of you who think you want to go back to those days would miss your flat screen tv and your cell phone in the worst way.

Polio and iron lungs were a downer until 1955 when Salk's vaccine was created. My parents
were scared ****less about polio epidemics, probably for good reason.

1950s-early 1960s were probably the last golden age of passenger trains. I have fond memories of riding the Santa Fe El Capitan and San Francisco Chief back in the day.
One guy I went to school with had had polio, He walked a little awkwardly because his heel on one foot wouldn't quite touch the ground. While he would never be a track athlete, he did play baseball (second base) and made all stars a couple of years in Little League.

A world where you are unreachable if not home? You'd have to leave/return messages. What horror.

You could only leave a message if someone else answered to take the message.

What I remember also was my dad in his business having to use an operator to make a call to South America. He'd literally tell the operator the country and number - and then sit by the phone for up to an hour for the operator to call back that she (yes, the operators were all women) had an open line and could place the call. If no one answered or the line was busy on the other end then repeat the process later.

Speaking of which, do millennials even know about busy signals!? The funny ones were also people in the country with a party line.

The phrase, "<name> isn't here, can I take a message?" Is pretty much gone.

Considering many of them are pushing 40, yes. "Millennial" is not a catch all for "everyone younger than 50."

It also had advantages. A prime example was calling for someone knowing they're not home so you can talk to another person. Prime example was calling for a friend from school knowing he wasn't there but hoping his sister would answer and you could chat her up.

When I was 2 or 3 years old, we still had the switchboard operators where you picked up the phone and told the operator the number you wanted to call and I think I remember my mom saying only there were only three numbers (small town). She would tell the story about hearing me talk and talk and it would be me conversing with the operator even though she probably couldn't understand half of what I said.

Later, we moved to the country and had an 8 party phone line. Each house could hear two rings, either the standard ring or two shorter duration rings. But 8 different households used the one line. Sure limited what you could talk about with a girl on the phone.

Once a year my parents went to the Davis Mountains to mule deer hunt. The hunting camp had no phone so when they left there was no way to get in touch with them until they pulled back in the driveway 7 or 8 days later. I don't recall that being something I regretted.
