Plaintiff PI types? Probably the Rusty Hardin type lawyers. There are probably 20-30 of those guys that specialize in state court plaintiff trial cases.

The next group id look at are the trial boutique firms. These are firms with lawyers that are usually ex-biglaw. These firms generally don't try PI type cases but instead serve as the actual trial counsel for larger size commercial cases (where it's business v. business, not injured individual v. business). Firms like AZA, Yetter Coleman, and Beck Redden come to mind on the more local/smaller size scale, places like McKool Smith and evening Quinn Emmanuel for larger, more national firms that still have a litigation boutique feel to them.

For stuff where there's no longer juries and the forum is something more complicated than state court, federal court, or AAA arbitration (I.e. ICSID or other international tribunals) you rarely see lawyers outside of large national AmLaw 100 firms involved in these cases. It's also common that large national firms litigation sections run big commercial cases until it is clear that trial will happen and they will bring in a trial boutique to prepare the case for trial and presentation to the jury.

I've handled 4 eviction appeal trials in Texas, one of which ended in the other party getting tazed and arrested. So I've got a pretty good track record so far and therefore throw my hat into the ring.

None of my real cases seem destined to go to trial though.
