If things are as described, I hope you beat them like a drum. I will say, for the most part, wrecker drivers and tow company owners rank pretty near the bottom of the barrel when it comes to scum.

So why is there an Uber from campus to the tow lot? I thought Ashley drove her home.
uh - both of these could easily be true (and according to the story are). Ashely goes home first. Retrieves car later?

Do people not get rides from friends anymore? Why pay for an Uber? Someone check her instagram and tell us her friend situation.

I used to have a police scanner that would also pick up cordless phones on 900 MHz. Pretty sure I heard my neighbors setting up a drug deal one night.

For some reason it would also pick up the radio traffic from one of the local towing companies. Late in the evenings when only the driver was on duty the phone calls would roll to his radio. I heard a few conversations of drunk people calling them to find out where their cars had been towed to and how to get it back. Their fee was some non-convenient amount like $87.43, and the only payment they would take were money orders or exact cash (they could not make change). I guess that was their way of inconveniencing people enough to where they could force them into paying an additional day of storage.

I couldn't view it because of AdBlock, so I'm assuming it's just a clicbait traffic counter site.

All I know is that when I managed the chicken we would tow your car (and rightfully so) if you did not go from your car DIRECTLY into and remain in one of the businesses listed on the sign.

Your daughter probably didn't go straight into the coffee shop or she did not stay there for the full 2 hours.

When I was in school, instead of studying, I would sit on the back porch drinking beer hanging out with the tow truck driver between tows. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. And the look and anger on their faces when they came back. Especially if they eventually made it into the Chicken, had a few pitchers and then their car was gone. Lol so much good times.

Brings back memories of the good old days as an undergrad when I never had to worry about parking because I had my Dad's spare faculty (yellow) lot sticker on my car.

Not sure why everyone is hating on tow truck drivers. Some of the best people I have met have been tow truck drivers

After living in this town for 39 years I have seen college students park illegally countless times. They walk or drive right past a tow sign and not walk into the business the lot is for. Whether they do it stupidly or defiantly I don't know, but it is a real problem. The rampant illegal parking caused the towing scourge, not the other way around.

Also I should say that this isn't the only place in the world with towing. I think the misunderstandings are more pronounced given the inexperience and general lack of common sense of college students.

You're right. There's no way on God's green earth I would live in BCS were it not for A&M. I'm not complaining, I'm explaining what I've seen. Hell, I went to A&M.

With no A&M, I actually might have made my life in a more exciting place lol.

Either way, the towing in most cases is justified.

Probably so. However, the incentives for towing innocents is too high when the tow companies are allowed to charge the max $255 + $25. Or $300 if they're rounding up.

At $300 per tow, if I were an enterprising tow driver, I'd tow first and ask questions later. If I tow 20 cars Saturday night, I've pocketed $6K. Any nominal fines are just a rounding error.

The CS City Council could enact an ordinance regulating a lesser amount as the max tow charge. They should set that amount that discourages illegal parking but at the same time discourages entrepreneurial towing. I'm thinking something like $100.

TLDR: The fun meter is pegged in the tow truck operators' favor and it's time to push the meter back to the center.

I think what you say without doubt has merit. $300 seems stiff.

Conversely, I'm no tow truck operator, but $100 seems low. It doesn't seem like a sustainable fee to make a profit. There are likely days without one tow, but yet the overhead remains.

Perhaps something in the middle would be more appropriate.

Of course, some tow guys may tow even MORE aggressively if they could only make $100 each.

I think he moved many years ago. I heard he moved to San Angelo but I heard he has a daughter that is a student here,

She drives a Lexus.
