I remember when they built their main office at 46/Walnut and 337. It was strange how they occupied so much space in town.

Gonzo journalist Hunter S Thompson described my home town like this:

cruel, crazy town on a filthy river in East Texas with no zoning laws and a culture of sex, money and violence. It's a shabby, sprawling metropolis ruled by brazen women, crooked cops and super-rich pansexual cowboys who live by the code of the West -- which can mean just about anything you need it to mean, in a pinch.

A J Foyt was also born and grew up there.

I also went back to my old High School. They asked me if I had a knife or a gun. I said no. They asked which one would I like.

Gonzales ISD was given an F accountability rating by TEA for 2018. Even Luling got a "D".

Gonzales is not in a great place right now. Schools, public spending, lack of a future for kids with any other opportunity, rising cost of housing and real estate not keeping track with incomes, etc. The rest of small-town Texas outside of bedroom community commuting distance is going through various similar problems.

I'll admit I always thought it was amber as in the color(red alert, code blue, etc), but naming it after someone makes sense too.

I'll admit I always thought it was amber as in the color(red alert, code blue, etc), but naming it after someone makes sense too.
it was an awful case. Girl was abducted from a parking lot while riding her bike. They found her dead in a creek several days later. She was stripped of clothes and her throat had been cut. By all accounts a totally random snatch and grab that's never been solved.
