How long do you want to ignore this user?
I hadn't bothered applying there because I figured the long hair was an issue but someone on the job board said that was ok for part timers.

I looked at the job listing and I'd like to go for either the tech assistant position or the PC support tech job (My networking knowledge is currently close to zero, but I can learn fast)

Any advice?

And what's the dress code like?

If you really need the money, they do give paychecks. Albeit small ones.

I wish I had stayed away. Evil place.

I really do need the money and the only other options I've found are ones I don't want to take.

Not looking to do this stuff for a career.

It's like 1984. Insanely micromanaged, but they were pretty flexible with my schedule.

If you don't mind being paid $7/hr and having your every move tracked by security cameras, access codes, and paranoid control freak managers, go for it.

I, for one, am not a fan.

Donate plasma. I did this while in school. Decent way to make some drinking money..give you head rush when they're done. Draw back is you get sick easy..go figure.

Don't tell your momma you do this though...she bout kicked my arse when I told her.

My other option pays more, but let's just say it's a work environment I'd be even less fond of.

Go apply. It's not that bad for a part timer.

I've had plenty of crappier jobs like working construction in the summer. Compared to that, being a UCS tech assistant is like going on vacation for 20 hours a week.

NoAC, what? Is the Sock hiring Bouncers again? Trust me, even working there would be better than UCS. There are so many other places that pay $7 an hour that are alot more fun to work at. STAY AWAY FROM UCS!

Padfoot - bouncers and DJ - a job I previously held. I don't want to go back.

And if you know of a place that will pay more that will hire a guy with long hair fill me in. (no food service though)

Kourt - sent

NoAC, above all, you've gotta respect what you do at work. For whatever that's worth.

I didn't like UCS, but I didn't work on the bench, either. It might be the right thing "to get by on" for the moment. If so, don't hesitate.

Best of luck.

by far that's the goal of the moment. Starting in June I will be racing as fast as I can to get the living hell out of this town.

NoAC: cool -- I didn't know how tied down you were to BCS.

In that case, I'd say do it. Their turnover is ridiculous, which means they're always hiring. It's definitely survivable, especially if you're done with school in May. Plus, the guys that work there tend to be alright, since it's kind of an us (employees) against them (UCS) attitude company-wide, outside of management.

I worked there for about a year in application development, which was about 9 months too long (for me).

Beats working at a strip club, regardless of what the mindless testosterone on this board might think. Yes, I'm straight.

preaching to the choir about working at a strip club. Granted the money was great and I didn't actually DO anything but it was murder on my relationship at the time. If I'm back in one again (and I hopefully will be) I don't want her to have to deal with that.

Tell us more about this. I wish I could DJ at the dirty sock for one night a week. I could make some extra money and see boobies for free.

Back in a relationship, or back in a strip club?

Seriously, though, I hope you're feeling "up" more often than not this week. Your post last week hit pretty close -- I was in a nearly identical situation a couple of years ago.

It will get better, I promise!

Edit: Texags is freaking out...

the novelty effect will wear off in about 3 days.

What they were looking for when I was hired:

1. Voice sounds good
2. Isn't nervous on the mic
3. Does not creep out the women

When I was trying out guys for my replacement #3 killed a lot of their chances.

It's under new ownership and new hours since I was there so I dunno what sort of shifts they need people for.

One more ? about UCS (didnt get a chance to call today)

Do I need a resume to apply for any job there? Or is an application enough for the PT positions?

does not creep out the women? did they really ask that?
NoACDamnit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Didn't have an interview. If the girls got a creepy vibe from someone they weren't getting hired.

wow. that seems kind of arbitrary.

I wouldn't think you'd need a resume, but I haven't applied for a PT job in so long I could be totally wrong.

Read it all.

$7/hr in a stuffy environment is better than $0/hr at home.
