Driving in the rain with hazard lights on

My problem is with people changing lanes while using hazards in the rain. If you're gonna put them on, stay in your Lane, and don't make any sudden moves.

If they are driving much slower than the speed limit (and they have their headlights on as well), then that is perfectly acceptable.

I don't think flashing tail lights increases visibility of a car over tail lights being on completely.

Would rather have the slow overly cautious drivers turn on their hazard lights than no lights at all; that way I can identify what lane not to be in sooner.

hazard lights should only be on when the vehicle is moving if you are in a funeral procession.

If it's extremely heavy rain and cars in front of me are going under 30, I'll throw them on just to bring extra attention/caution to the cars behind me. Usually only do that on road trips, wouldn't do it just during work commute

I'll throw them on for three or four seconds if I'm having to brake strongly and it's clear I'm going to have to come to almost a complete stop on the highway......lets the guy behind me know that I'm not just ordinarily braking.

I always use my hazard lights at night because lighting in Houston isn't too good.

It deactivates your ability to signal turns and lane changes completely in almost all vehicles. It also looks like you are signaling to change lanes to anyone who is right beside you..

To be fair, the type of folks who do this generally aren't the sort that use their turn signals.

I'll throw mine on if I'm coming to a fairly abrupt slowdown and there's 75+mph traffic behind me who doesnt realize the traffic in front of them has slowed to a crawl. Anything that keeps me from being rear-ended or sandwiched between an 18 wheeler in front of me and some a-hole on texags or their insta behind me.

Rather have someone driving slow with their hazards on then the idiots who think they can still drive 70 in a driving rain storm and I can tell from some of the responses that a few of you are probably one of those idiots.
Just make sure to keep your old ass in the right so I don't have to flip you the bird as I blow past you. It's just rain.

Until they want to change lanes and try to signal for it - was almost hit by someone doing that.

Hazard lights are to notify other cars you have a problem and need to pull over ASAP. If you can't drive in the rain because of visibility, pull over.

Hazards are for a lot of things, your reason is just one of them. If you move to a country like Italy, there's a whole'nother set of reasons to use them.

In a nutshell, they're to tell people to 'be careul'.

Not here. They're to tell people you have a problem, not that it's raining.

Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison. And I went to pick her up in the rain. I didn't use my hazards. So there's that...

What if you use hazmats on the floorboards?

It makes it safer when I'm going 15 under in the fast lane.

I have seen both.

Been in some rains and snow storms where visability was 30 feet at best and taillights where not enough to see the driver in front of you. However, the amber hazards of other drivers where much more visisable than tail lights.

In my state of Virginia the use of hazard lights is just that the indicator of a hazard and the speed is at or below 30mph, plus a few others.

Of course I live in a nascar state being inundated with carpet bagging Yankees, who may or may not have had their drivers license at a traditional age; so its doubly dangerous!

I've started using my hazards any time I drive after 5:30 PM. I'd rather be safe than sorry, yo. I also have one of those signs even though there is no baby on board. That way people won't choose to intentionally ram into my car.

The only thing that annoys me more is when its barley raining and people have their wipers on full blast.

I once got caught in an absolute massive downpour in MD in twilight conditions and everyone was going like 20 mph max on a freeway. Everyone suddenly put on their hazards. It really did help you see the car in front of you better. There was no passing by anyone because you couldn't see squat. If you are trying to pass when visibility is nil you are the dangerous a-hole.
